Christian music for kids
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for blogging!
I am looking for some good quality Christian kids' music. We love Raffi but I want our kids to also learn songs to help them in their faith. Any suggestions from you or possibly your readers?
Love,
Melissa
If you scroll down Barbara's Picks - Kids' Music, you'll find a couple CDs of Childrens Hymns which my kids love.
But there's a lot more out there - I just don't have time to check through my kids' CDs right now. Hoping my readers can make some great suggestions!

My nearly-two year old loves the Christian music CD we got her here: http://www.mediakmusic.com . It's customized, too, so they use your child's name on the CD. (Only in the talking portions, not in the singing.) The packaging looks like it was done on a home computer, but the music quality is great.

I would also like to suggest Seeds Family Worship CDs. There are four of them and the songs on each CD are Scripture set to music. I love to listen to it, as well as my two year old. We have 2 of the CDs and she knows every song. I like the music and I like that the songs are somewhat repetitive. It's a great way to learn Bible verses.

When my boys were little, we loved "The Donut Man" and "Psalty." I also found kids music from MY childhood on CD's on Ebay and my boys have loved "The Music Machine" "Bullfrogs and Butterflies" and especially "Sir Oliver's Song." As a bonus, I have great memories of singing these same tunes with my sisters when we were little.

I also grew up with Psalty (and Colby-- anybody remember him?)
But if you want something that's more of a cross between kid and adult music you might try the Worship4Kids series put out by Integrity and TimeLife, I believe (I don't have the disks in front of my just now).
These take the songs we sing in church (or, the ones from when they were recorded) and have them sung by a kids choir that has been coached in dictation and harmony.
I mention that b/c so often I hear recordings made with kids for kids that are just a disappointing quality of music.
Some pieces are led or harmonized with adults too, and (forgive me for reading too deeply into all of this) I really appreciate the adult involvement while still letting the kids have the major role.
Of the three we have, Red (I Sing Praise) and Blue (Awesome God) are my favorites. My kids like them all, and I like that I don't have to just "endure" them.
*Highly* recommended.

Our entire family enjoys "Sing The Word" CD's by the Harrow family. Their first CD is a part of the Sonlight curriculum, "Sing the Word from A to Z." There are 5 other CD's as well. I think our favorite is "Great in Counsel, Mighty in Deed," though it really is difficult to choose between them all! Check them out and listen to samples here:
