Maddy sings!

Maddy's friend sent her an announcement the other day about a singing opportunity for Broadway-type singers, but it required a demo.

Within an hour, Maddy had enlisted the help of a friend from church to accompany her and our choir director to tape and produced this song from Les Miserables:

On My Own

They really needed a little more time together to make it perfect, but for a spur-of-the-moment thing, I think it's pretty impressive.

Even more - I was impressed with Maddy's ability to grab an opportunity and run with it - setting up everything herself with no ideas or pushing from me (she's only 14). She didn't get the job, but I am proud of her for a host of reasons.

Love,

Wow! She sounds great - very mature. She should have gotten the job!

Hi Barbara! I'm a voice teacher and singer (now mom!) and wanted to comment on Maddy's demo. She has a very natural talent and I hope you're getting her voice lessons! Nothing can replace proper technique in any singer, especially in the Braodway genre. There are so many singers that end up with vocal damage over time! Beautiful job, Maddy!

Hi Christine -

I knew a voice teacher would hear all the flaws in the demo :) She usually is more polished, but the woman accompanist just got the music an hour before and they had little time to practice so there was some confusion in timing. Also little warm up for Maddy.

Anyway - yes, she does have an incredible voice teacher who was an opera singer/Broadway belt and actually even understudies for Patti Lupone. That's been a blessing.

This is my favorite song from Les Misérables. She sounds great and definately older than 14. Wish I could sing like that :)

WOW, did little Maddie grow up or what! She sounds so terrific that the group that didn't choose her is surely missing out. Congrats to the Family Curtis (Family Von Trapp)
