Rachel's Legacy at Loudoun Valley High School 9/13

rachelschallenge.jpg

Rachel's Challenge is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit organization established in memory of Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School ion April 20, 1999.

They offer presentations at high schools encouraging students to recognize their full potential and significance in life while motivating them to treat others with kindness and compassion.

The students at Loudoun Valley High School will welcome Rachel's Legacy on September 13.

Rachel's Legacy will also offer a community presentation that evening - Thursday this week - at the Loudoun Valley High School auditorium 7-8 pm.

I saw the flyers at the LVHS Back-to-School last night. Sadly, right next to the flyers were opt-out forms for parents to sign who do not want their kids to hear this message - presumably because Rachel Scott and her family were/are Christians.

See, we have this situation right now in Loudoun with a teensy band of bitter anti-Christians who raise a ruckus whenever anyone who identifies themselves as a Christian speaks in our public schools. It doesn't matter how careful they are to keep their presentation inclusive - just the fact that a speaker is Christian is enough to cause calls to the school administration and the ACLU.

This is prejudice, plain and simple. Imagine if they tried to keep someone from speaking because they were Jewish or Middle Eastern.

But Christians continue to be fair game.

So far they've been unsuccessful in their efforts to shut down speakers requested by parents and students. I think the opt-out option is a good solution - but it really shows what hypocrites they are, claiming to want to build tolerance, while teaching their own children to despise others based on their religion.

Anyway - our family will be there September 13 to hear Rachel's Legacy.

How about you?

Love,
