    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!
  • Noisy Nora
    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Big Apple Circus

IMG_7689-1.JPG

For the sixth year in a row, we went to the Big Apple Circus yesterday. This started the first year we moved to Virginia when we received some free tickets distributed to families with special needs and/or foster care kids.

We loved the circus immensely. It is small and not too overwhelming for young children to grasp. Every year they have a different theme - the live music and costumes are always excellent - but the thread that runs through each year is Grandma the Clown.

We were fortunate this year to have a gift of front row seats. Afterwards, Jonny wanted badly to see the performers, like when you hang out at the stage door and get stars' autographs after a play (he once caught the leads in Les Miserables and got all their autographs, an unforgettable moment). I'd never seen the performers at the circus come out afterwards, but just as we were headed for the exit, I turned my head and caught a glimpse of Grandma!

Here are the kids with Grandma the Clown. Note Daniel clutching his Grandma Doll which he gets out every year to bring with him to see the show - as well as the Big Apple Circus hats which have become part of the tradition as well:

Beautiful photo of the boys with Grandma! They'll want that one framed and displayed to remember. You can really see their joy. What a precious memory.
