Gleaning: a way to help others in Loudoun County

Passing this on:

Help us stamp out hunger on Saturday, November 3rd by going gleaning with Leesburg Community Church. Gleaning is harvesting healthy and nutritious produce that has been left in the field, and would otherwise go to waste, for those in need. We will be partnering with the Society of St. Andrew and gleaning from Winchester fields for turnips and apples for the hungry in Loudoun County. We will meet at the church at 9:00am, and carpool/caravan from LCC. Gleaning will be from 10am-12:00pm, then we will head back to LCC. This is a wonderful mission opportunity for families or singles; persons of all ages are welcome. Please contact Jaime Jones (703) 779-8548 or Jones231(at)verizon(dot)net for more information and/or to sign up for this rewarding opportunity.

Top 5 reasons to go gleaning:

*You can be involved in a mission opportunity that will make a big difference in our local community without taking up a lot of your time.

*You can teach your children about hunger; about our blessings and the importance of becoming involved in serving others.

*This is a mission opportunity that your family can do together; drawing you closer and providing lots of discussion opportunities.

*You will provide local persons in need with fresh nutritious fruits and vegetables at no cost to them. (Remember although welcome, they are usually given only non-perishable items which typically have less vitamins and antioxidants).

*In the process of serving, you'll be served : ) Your heart will be warmed as you know you've made a difference in peoples' lives in the community.

PLEASE RSVP TO Jamie Jones at 703 779 8548 or jones231@verizon.net.

And don't forget the added bonus of letting kids discover that food does come from the ground and the trees and not the produce aisle. When we visit our in-laws farm the kids LOVE digging up potatoes and getting corn from the stalks. This sounds like an excellent project, I know if we lived nearby my husband would love to make it a family trip.

I so love that your church is doing this, how awesome. What a neat way for people to help others. Lately I have been having alot of discussions with friends and other about how so many churches just are NOT in the business of helping others. I just see way to many unwilling people and some just are down right takers. Can you tell I am frustrated. God bless you and your church for doing such a great thing.

Ps hey if your interested I am having fall give away on my blog in honor of my new decided upon course of life, I am usually a pretty positive person and I have been letting alot drag me down. So I have decided to aim toward much more positive posts and having a give away seemed a great way to start to give something to someone else.
