Special Education - law and advocacy

Parents of children with disabilities, you need this!

wrightslawlogo.8-07.gif

Parents, educators, advocates, and attorneys come to Wrightslaw for accurate, reliable information about special education law, education law, and advocacy for children with disabilities.

After years of being a happy camper parent and signing on the dotted line of four children's IEPs - trusting the "professionals" to plan the best program for my children - my experience last year changed everything. Dealing with a passive/aggressive teacher who seemed intent on proving that I wasn't a good mother and didn't know what was best for my kids completely radicalized me.

Then there's been the experience of discovering that just because people work in the field of Special Ed doesn't mean they embrace the spirit of inclusion or understand that those they see as disabled really have much to offer.

And so I am picking up the pieces and trying make sure I can be an effective advocate for my children. Frankly, I don't care whether people like me or not. What I care about is that my children be afforded the education to which they are entitled by law.

I am going to a WrightsLaw workshop 10/25 in Vienna, Virginia. I am very excited to have found this resource. You can check their schedule for workshops in your area.

Parents can also subscribe at the WrightsLaw site to receive The Special Ed Advocate - a highly informative and empowering update - by email.

Love,
