An empty legacy

More good news. This woman is not reproducing:

Meet the women who won't have babies - because they're not eco friendly

Had Toni Vernelli gone ahead with her pregnancy ten years ago, she would know at first hand what it is like to cradle her own baby, to have a pair of innocent eyes gazing up at her with unconditional love, to feel a little hand slipping into hers - and a voice calling her Mummy.

But the very thought makes her shudder with horror.

Because when Toni terminated her pregnancy, she did so in the firm belief she was helping to save the planet.

Toni Vernelli

Desperate measures: Toni Vernelli was steralised at age 27 to reduce her carbon footprint

Incredibly, so determined was she that the terrible "mistake" of pregnancy should never happen again, that she begged the doctor who performed the abortion to sterilise her at the same time.

He refused, but Toni - who works for an environmental charity - "relentlessly hunted down a doctor who would perform the irreversible surgery.

Finally, eight years ago, Toni got her way.

"I didn't like having a termination, but it would have been immoral to give birth to a child that I felt strongly would only be a burden to the world."

Hope I am not the only one to see the irony in this statement. God forbid she do something immoral.

That's about all I can think of to say.

The comment that struck me "it’s selfish to have children". Such a world view I suppose, our Christian view is so different!
The ability to bear children or the children we receive through adoption are a gift from God. What we do with these gifts is our responsibility. It isn't in the numbers, but in the stewardship of them that God uses family’s to make a difference, so if we choose to bury them (“abortion”) I believe we will reap what we sow.
Consider the story of the talents that Jesus shared in Matthew 25. He spoke about use of money, the principal of stewardship; I've taken the liberty to change the word talents to "children". I believe being a good steward of all that God has given us, is what matters in the end. Being fearful is not what we are called to.
The Parable of the Talents
14"Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. 15To one he gave five children, to another two children, and to another one child, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received the five children went at once and put his children to work and gained five more. 17So also, the one with the two children gained two more. 18But the man who had received the one child went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's gift. (aborted the child)
19"After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20The man who had received the five children brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five children. See, I have gained five more.'
21"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
22"The man with the two children also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two children; see, I have gained two more.'
23"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
24"Then the man who had received the one child came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your child in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.'
26"His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my child on deposit with the bankers (gave it up for adoption to a loving family), so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28" 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
Barbra what do you think?
Blessings to you and your family on this holiday weekend!

Genesis 18:19
For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."

My husband always wonders about people like that--he says "If they truly think humans are a disease on the earth-and they know they themselves are human-why don't they jump off a bridge and save the world that way instead of killing other people?" We don't in any way advocate suicide, but if one's goal is to reduce one's carbon footprint, the logical way is just that. It just goes to show the inconsistencies of the extreme left.

I hope that she never adopts because I don't think it would be good for that child's self-esteem to be told that humans are worthless burdens to the planet.

One thing I don't understand about extreme environmentalism (I consider myself light-green) is if you don't believe in a personal God who created the heavens and the earth...then why are you so protective of some worthless blue orb floating in the universe? If life isn't sacred, and we are not here for a purpose, then isn't all the energy directed at protecting natural life kind of pointless?

Margaret- I had a friend who had planned to kill himself on his 25th birthday to decrease his carbon foot print but after having a baby he decided he would hang around long enough to raise her. Since having her I think his views on the "worthlessness" of human life have lessened and he went from devout atheist to agnostic.
