Cold snaps, deer hunting and change

I was talking about the weather here and our unseasonably warm Thanksgiving. Yesterday changed everything.

You know that expression cold snap? Yesterday was the kind of day that makes you think snap is the only word that could describe what happened here weather-wise.

It's 6:30 AM and 17 degrees here. Everyone is still asleep and I am making some coffee to enjoy while reading my Bible.

The stillness is only punctuated by rifle shots. Yes - rifle shots. That probably sounds startling to many readers. And as a former anti-gun crusader, I never thought that my views would change on that issue and that I would actually feel comfortable with the sounds of rifles (I've had to eat my words on many, many issues :)

We live near some open land and I know the rifle sounds are men hunting deer. We have a real deer problem in Loudoun County. Yes, I know some will say it was their land first. But sometimes they seem almost suicidal in their timing jumping into the roads.

Hunting is encouraged here to deal with the overpopulation. And people do eat what they kill. My oldest son Josh got into hunting last year and shot a deer and put meat in our freezer. I think the hunting experience is archetypal. So I don't begrudge men the fulfillment of that desire.

Who would have thought the weather could change so suddenly. Who would have thought an adamant person like me could change her mind on guns?

One thing I've learned over a lifetime in which I've been absolutely certain about many things only to find out I was wrong is to never stop keeping an open mind. The Lord of the Universe can take you in some surprising directions - sometimes suddenly. And my experience has been that he most likely will - just to keep you humble.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Funny - I honestly didn't know where this was going. Sometimes I as surprised as anyone at what happens when I put a specific chunk of time in God's hands. Now off to my coffee and Bible.
Love,
My hubby bagged a squirrel yesterday :-) It's in our freezer, and I don't think I'm brave enough to eat it. Though a deer.......?
Deer Meat (or Venison)is actually quite good. Here in Nova Scotia lots of people hunt, although there is a one deer per person limit. Plus you have to be licensed to hunt deer. The Department of Natural Resources actually has hunters out in the "field" so to speak regulating this rule - huge fines if you are caught hunting more than one animal.
