Correct way to sneeze

sneeze.jpg

The first time I saw my kids sneezing into their sleeves, I corrected them. Then they corrected me.

Once they explained it, it made perfect sense. The elbow sneeze has caught on fast where I live. Have you all seen the new technique? Are people using it in your part of the country?

Hi Barbara,
That's the way we were "taught" to sneeze in nursing school, as it's the "most sanitary." Funny, though it is...

We use the elbow sneeze here in Texas.

Yes, and for once, I am Trendy And Cool, as I sneeze the up-to-date way.

Watching this video made me cough. Is it contagious like yawning is contagious?

Here in Iowa in the preschool set, we teach sneezing into sleeves. My 3yo though still manages to most often sneeze all over her food.

I use it! I feel silly when I do it, but if I can't get a kleenex quite in time it seems like the only way to sneeze without getting it all over my hands and then all over whatever I have to touch before I get to the bathroom. You are serious right, people in your area use this? I don't feel so alone!

I didn't realize this was the "new way" to sneeze, but I've been sneezing into my arm/shirt/elbow out of practicality.

Actually I teach a shoulder sneeze here, but elbow sneezes are acceptable too.

It takes longer to get to the shoulder, but it trains them to turn their heads away.

I've read about this, and see about half the people in my area sneezing this way. I disagree that it's the best way for everyone, though. If you sneeze into your hands, then wash your hands right away, it is less likel to spread germs. If you sneeze into your arm, if someone touches your arm, they are more exposed to your germs.

I've been teaching my kids (and daycare kids, too!) to sneeze in their sleeves for years. In fact, when I see a kid covering a sneeze with a hand, I cringe and want to whip out the Lysol!

i cook a lot, and i just learnt to sneeze into my elbow out of practicality, especially if my hands are covered in flour!
