Starry Starry Night - Vincent Van Gogh slideshow

This piece by Don McLean came out in the 70's but I hope that those of you much younger than I have heard it. Don is most famous for his cryptic song American Pie - and I guess he's still making music because I found a website for him.

Finding this on youtube really made me appreciate the extra level of creativity and sharing we have because of the Internet.

And btw, if you've never seen the actual original Van Gogh paintings, see if there are any in a museum near you. The ones I've seen at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Smithsonian in DC have just taken my breath away. You just can't capture the heavy brush strokes on a flat print or computer screen.

Van Gogh was a genius - like many, a tortured one. But he saw things we couldn't see and left us a legacy of great beauty.

Just thought you might like to share this with your older kids.

Love,

I was an 11th grade high school art student in 1972 and that was my favorite song and artist.

Thanks, I might put it on my blog, if I can figure out how. I need to take a class.

my six year old son enjoys watching all clips that include van gogh and the song vincent. when he was four we read a book about van gogh and he instantly be came a fan. that same year he was listenig to my cd collection and heard my don mclean collection and realized that vincent was about van gogh-needless to say it is in constant rotation.
