Blog Birthday Book Giveaway - enter by January 14
January 15 will be my third birthday as a Bloggin' Momma. I set out to blog because even though I was published in print, I wanted a more immediate connection with my readers. Today I couldn't ask for anything more in terms of the freedom to communicate. I am so grateful for this space, for my readers, and for the wide circle of wonderful people who have allowed me to become even a small part of their lives.
(Will write more on the actual birthday. And will be blogging more later this week - once I get past today's 5:00 deadline (plus two ophthalmologist appointments for Jonny and Jesse smack dab in the middle of the day.)
But want to announce a special celebration in honor of MommyLife's Third Birthday.

I didn't know you had a blog! Now I am going back reading your past entries and am looking forward to the ones to come. I used the Montessori methods with my children (now 16 & 17) and today use them with my home day care. Instead of one specific area designated for the children I have things set up throughout the house for them to explore as they want and to participate in the normal everyday activities along with me. I loved looking at your photo album and found some new ideas to add to what we have set up. I just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you are to normal people like me who want to make a difference in a child's life. Thank you.

Hi there. Thank you so much for offering me encouragement a few months ago when I needed it (had to leave baby in daycare for 12 weeks). Happy Blogging Birthday. I have been devouring your two Mommy Teach Me books ever since I got them last week. As a mom fo a two year old and a six month old, I find them quite helpful... I only wish there were napping/sleeping help! My son just spent 90 minutes kicking and screaming as I lay with him, dodging his naptime protests. My daughter, meanwhile, was awakened from her nap. Happy Birthday! I am a regular reader of your blog, and have read The Mommy Manual as well. Thanks for the encouragement! I'm struggling with homeschooling two while dealing with a very busy and intelligent 3 year old and a 5 month old. I teach part-time in the public school as well. I am having a hard time determining if homeschooling is what God wants, or if my boys would be better served with a public or private education and a less-stressed mommy. Did mommy-stress factor into your decision to stop homeschooling?

See all you have accomplished has encouraged me to revisit some of my writing projects. I have a children's book (one charactor has downs) that is nearly finished, complete with illustrations (so kindly done by a talented friend) Even if I have to self publish, I am going to do it. Barbara, many many congratulations on your blog birthday, what an achievement! Thank you also for providing such rich pickings that span so many different topics. Yours is the only blog that I really do check into daily. I have been inspired, encouraged and challenged to think more deeply about issues that I have never really given sufficient thought to in the past. You have also provided, for me personally, a model of how it is possible to be bold and forthright about difficult and sensitive issues without losing the all important perspective of love and grace. You often use yourself as an illustration of the life that is missing God and the power of his grace and forgiveness.What a relief! What an encouragement!

I check your website every day. Thanks for challenging all of us Christians to get out of our cozy little bubbles to defend the unborn and engage and transform our culture.
Thanks also for speaking out for our brothers and sisters with Downs Syndrome and providing resources and a forum for their parents, families and friends.
Thanks for the funny stuff, too.I'm still smiling over the Youtube guy who imitated the screech of the ironing board.
I bought and gave copies of Mommy Teach Me to 2 daughters (one homeschools & the other is considering it.) when it first came out & I would love to give them more of your books and/or give them to other moms, after perusing them myself.

I recently came across your blog and really enjoy reading it. I spent quite some time the other day reading it and my husband asked what I was doing. He only shook his head when I told him I was reading a blog by another Christian mother. It's great to read about your experiences and advice. I have been visiting your sight for some time now and I am always encouraged. I am a mother of 2 boys ages 6 and 2 (my two year old has type one diabetes), one on the way in June, and step-mother to 2 adult children and 1 teenager. It is nice to have encouragement from someone who may have started on the wrong path but turned her life around. You give me hope. I just purchased the "Mommy Manual" and am loving it.
