Candidate Calculator - vote issues, not personalities
Margaret sent me this really cool site:
Candidate Calculator
Which 2008 Presidential Candidate Agrees With You?Answer the questions below to find the 2008 presidential candidate that best aligns with your beliefs. More than 2 million people have already filled it out. Give it a try!
Take the test - it's really interesting to find out whether you are supporting the candidate who actually represents your values. Don't just vote the issues - but on the right, be sure to rate how important each one is to you.
I announced at The Miz Report a couple days ago that after a lot of thought I'd determined that since we are voting for a political leader rather than a spiritual one, I had come around to supporting Mitt Romney because his values were most closely aligned with mine. This was based on logical thinking, rather than any emotional appeal.
So I'm not surprised that when I took the test, I turned up 93.33 Romney.
If you are inclined to take the test, please consider sharing here what your results were. This is not going to be a forum for bashing, arguing or even persuasion - just to see the spectrum of people who can come together at a blog to share common ground, agreeing to disagree about anything other than wanting to help our children reach their potential, even as we try to reach our own.
No judgment over politics here - just curiosity.

Huckabee & Romney tied for the positions closest to mine - but the website put Huckabee and his photo first. 81.25 per cent agreement. This is a cool site and better than another someone emailed me.

It didn't help me at all. I ended up undecided, with a tie between the three I was trying to decide among: Huckabee, Romney, and Thompson.

Interestingly, I was an 88.46% match for both Huckabee and Romney. I suppose that means on the issues that are important to me, they are in general agreement. Still, I can't help liking Huckabee more. I find his track record on life issues and his personal values to be closer to mine.
Also, I realize that the President is not supposed to be a spiritual leader, but I have to see Mr. Romney as someone with some serious blinders on. And that doesn't make him seem like the best person to be making decisions in which the wisdom of God would be extremely helpful.

Interesting... Huckabee came out on top, but I really don't like him.... I really haven't decided who I'm going to vote for. I've just always known that Huckabee was not my first choice. Being from Arkansas he has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I was hoping this would help me at least lean in a certain direction, but to no avail...

96.3 % Romney. And I'm not surprised. I have been praying pretty much since the 2004 election that God would be preparing our next leader, AND preparing the country to elect that person. I'm getting close to sure it's Romney -- and I wasn't sure of some of his positions before I used the calculator.

Too Funny... I support Huckabee on my blog, at the caucuses... (I'm an Iowan).
The site said --
Mike Huckabee - 96% match. That's reassuring to me actually -- that I voted that way. If I found that I was under someone else -- I'd think I didn't research enough.
I think SPUNKY telling us homeschoolers -"You don't know who you are voting for." Perhaps she has different opinions and values that I, as a homeschooler, and I DO know who I am voting for. Just a thought.
Romney 80%.
Interesting -- Guiliani is 68%. Hmmm...I think I'd better start praying now. LOL
Mrs. Clinton - 36%. I wonder what we agree on?
THANKS for sharing this -- that was fun.

Did y'all remember not only to vote the issues but to vote the level of importance you attached to each issue? Just asking because my hubby was suprised he came out with Huckabee on top - but when he went back to fill in the importance side of the issues, he came out Hunter/Romney/Huckabee

I came out with Romney at the top. I have reservations about Romney and not just because of the Mormonism. It might change if I knew more about certain issues, such as the Free Trade issue. It's not that I don't care, but there are some issues that top my list, primarily pro-life issues. Nothing else seems to really matter if a candidate doesn't line up on that one.
I'm still not decided. Frustratingly, there's still a long time before we actually have to decide!

Hmmm...I don't think it's very accurate because one of its top picks for me is Huckabee. I'm on the opposite end of his thoughts on Illegals, for example, which I rated as a high concern.

It was Romney with the calculator, but he just does not sit right with me (nothing to do with LDS). Huckabee was listed second among the major Republican players on the list, but I have reservations about him as well. Learning on Spunky's site about the way he's bought into the IBO is a little alarming. Formally priming the hearts and minds of our youth with post-modern, one-world ideology... Oh, I could continue on that topic. I've been drawn to Thompson, who was the third player on my survey list, and need to look into him further. Then again, a part of me just wants to bury me head in the sand until I'm told who my two choices are on the November ballot.
For reasons too involved to write about here, I'm really starting to believe that, in these spiritual times and this current of history, we're going to have President Obama or Clinton. It will all be very interesting, in any case. I am just so glad that the position of King of Kings is not, and never will be, up for re-election!
