Classics for Kids - The Whole Story Series
Although I can't see who is placing orders through my Amazon link, I do get a list of the things people order -
Which I love because sometimes I discover things that are really worthwhile - in fact, I have to use a lot of self-discipline to keep from spending the earnings - which are supposed to cover my site upkeep :)
This morning I discovered The Whole Story series - classics annotated with historical and cultural references to expand the modern reader's understanding/appreciation. This makes so much sense. I browsed several different titles and read the comments, which were almost unanimously enthusiastic - except for disappointment that the Little Women in this series only contains Part 1, which ends when Mr. March comes home. Someone also commented that the annotated version might be distracting for someone reading the text for the first time.
You know your kids best, so use your own judgment. My kids all grew up with the classics and I think they would have appreciated these annotated versions.
Here is the series - which has lots of boys' favorites. At Amazon, there are used copies of some of these for as little as 34 cents! Click on the covers to learn more:
I am still building the Books section at my Amazon store. You can take a peek at what's there so far - not necessarily to buy, but for my comments and ideas for the future - by clicking in at the right sidebar. I've included these as a category under Classics, which is still under construction.
Special thanks to whoever it was who ordered one of these books - making me curious enough to look it up!

This is kinda funny to see something I did get a place on your blog! Thanks for noticing. My mother noticed them at the library and suggested them. She said the pictures were beautiful. I have not received them yet, but am sure that the kids will love them.

Oh no, must resist urge to buy more books! Those look so awesome! I have a tendency while reading aloud to stop and explain things to my kids (even if they didn't ask). While reading Cheaper By The Dozen I went off on several long tangents explaining the context. These books would be perfect for me! (I mean, for the kids... yeah...)
