For liberals, censorship is a one-way street
Dr. Hatrick admitted he overstepped his authority at the School Board meeting last night. I had supported his decision until we learned that procedure had not been followed. If there is a procedure, it should be followed. If the procedure needs changing, we should change it.
John Stevens wants to change the book review process in a way that would make it more difficult for parents who object to books. I have suggested that we add a component that screens books for propaganda.
And I suggest that schools also not bend to the complaints of one parent concerning curriculum without a review process.
Here's an interesting comment:
Amy Dillard, a parent with two children at Hillside Elementary in Ashburn, said she was dismayed "that one person's objection has resulted in the removal of this book . . . and that another parent could make a decision of what my children can and cannot read."
Hmmmm. That's how a lot of parents feel when ONE parent complains and shuts down any references to Christmas - even as other religious holidays are being discussed.
Anyone read Animal Farm recently? All animals equal. Some animals more equal than others.
