Who is Michelle Obama, really?

Michelle Obama recently stated on the campaign trail:
"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barak has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud."
Say what? For the first time you're proud of your country? Because your husband is running for president?
Michelle is an educated and articluate woman, and good at what she does. But aside from her narcissistic attitude toward her husband, is she authentic?
While we would know nothing from the American media - who are definitely supporting the bandwagon for Obama the Messiah, the British press has had a little more curiosity about the woman who could be our future First Lady:
Mrs O: The truth about Michelle Obama's 'working class' credentials

The dress, a purple shift, is almost ludicrously simple. The pearls around her neck are fakes, each one the size of a gobstopper, and deliberately so.It is clear that the woman gazing out from the cover of Newsweek magazine has a message for anyone caring to glance at the news stand.
Yes, Michelle Obama is a glamorous lawyer with a big salary, a bigger house and a husband with one hand on the Presidency, but never forget that this is also the little black girl from Chicago who overcame the odds to change the face of American politics.
Read the rest here, keeping in mind that currently the British pound equals nearly $2.

Another way to look at what she is saying is from the way other nations often see the US. Aggressive, materialistic, self-infatuated, etc. I can understand where she's coming from. I don't think nit-picking her statement to mean something it wasn't supposed to mean is simply playing into the political game.
