California homeschool crisis - letter to Schwarzenegger
Loved this comment left by Will Duquette concerning the appellate judge who last week decided homeschooling is a violation of state law:
I just sent this to Arnold in Sacramento, via the Governor's website:Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
A California state appellate court judge has said "Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children."
I do not homeschool my children. But I am vehemently opposed to any attempt by the state to relieve me of my responsibility for the upbringing and education of my children. The state may, at some times, and in some places, stand in loco parentis--that is to say, I delegate some of my authority to my child's teacher. But that authority is *delegated*; it remains mine.
A government that demands the right to educate and indoctrinate children as the state sees fit is no better than tyranny, and should be resisted as such.
Sincerely,
Will Duquette

Forgotten I'd posted that--I was quite surprised to see it pop up. :-)

Right on, Will!

Amen and Amen.
Again, Like Will we are not homeschoolers, in fact we are not even in the USA, but that is a step too far.
I watch with interest to see how this story unfolds.

Amen! Thankful there are people who can articulate my feelings so well! :)

Kudos to you for a well-articulated, succinct letter, Mr. Duquette. Perhaps you might also send copies to each of your state legislators!

Thank you, Mr. Duquette!
FYI: I got an email urging us to contact our local assemblyman and ask him to join Assemblyman Anderson's homeschool resolution.
Here are some California assemblymen:
Sam Aanstad: (916) 651-4004
Doug LaMalfa: ( 916) 319-2002
