STD's common in teen girls - thanks to Planned Parenthood

From the New York Times:

Sex Infections Found in Quarter of Teenage Girls
By LAWRENCE K. ALTMAN
March 12, 2008

The first national study of four common sexually transmitted diseases among girls and young women has found that one in four are infected with at least one of the diseases, federal health officials reported Tuesday.

Nearly half the African-Americans in the study of teenagers ages 14 to 19 were infected with at least one of the diseases monitored in the study — human papillomavirus (HPV), chlamydia, genital herpes and trichomoniasis, a common parasite.

Ironically, Planned Parenthood snatches up this kind of news with glee because they use it to campaign for MORE MONEY.

All the condoms in the world will not eliminate the spread of STD's. Doesn't it say anything about the character of Planned Parenthood that they campaign so aggressively against teaching abstinence as an option?

Check out PP's Teenwire (but not with your kids over your shoulder) to see what Planned Parenthood is foisting on our kids - with your tax dollars. Isn't promoting teen sexuality - if it feels good, do it! - really the main cause of the spread of disease?

Your thoughts?

Our school computers block Teenwire as an "adult" site (even with my "teacher clearance"). Whatever it is they are showing, just that stricture is enough of an answer to me as to what is wrong with the site. It's TEEN wire. There should be no adult! If it's really a good site for young people, shouldn't it be OK to show at high school?

Oh, and as a teacher of teens, let me just add that it is possible to educate students to make smart choices (ie ABSTINENCE) and still "completely" educate them (even though that SHOULD BE their parent's job!). Planned Parenthood is a joke of an organization, and it is not at all funny. Our county in no way shape or form supports it, and further our local charity organizations (United Way, etc) are all privatized so that we can choose to not have them support it either. Be careful which organizations you give to if they are disbursement charities... a lot of them do a lot of good, BUT (!) also give to Planned Parenthood as a way of "supporting" teens. It is disturbing how much money PP gets from people who don't mean to support them!

"STD's common in teen girls - thanks to Planned Parenthood"

That's quite a leap in logic you took there. Hope you didn't strain anything.

"All the condoms in the world will not eliminate the spread of STD's."

Again. Why don't we eliminate seat belt laws? They sure don't save every life.

Absolutely! I thought it was laughable the way they presented this on the news- as if it's some huge surprise. Why are we shocked that the outcome of encouraging promiscuity in the name of feminism results in increased rates of disease?

I read a blog the other day commenting on this study. The author was saying that as much as she believes parents ought to be teaching their children abstinence, it was "obvious" that we had to teach safe sex in the schools or we put teens' lives in danger.

I don't get it. Haven't we proved that "safe sex" is what puts teens' lives in danger?

People don't want to teach kids not to have sex, because if adults start trying to say that kids shouldn't be having sex early, they have to come up with a reason. And the only reason that is consistent is that sex outside of marriage is wrong. Most adults don't want to admit that. And so we have a situation where politicians, schools, the government, the media, etc. is all in an unspoken conspiracy to pretend that teens having sex is okay, as long as you use a condom, so that they can continue to have sex when they want.

It's just really heartbreaking. We need to get back to two things:

1. Abstinence education
2. And FATHERS! The biggest variable in the age at first sexual experience is the presence of a biological father in the home. Most girls who grow up with biological fathers in the house are still virgins at the end of high school. Most who do not have become sexually active long before.

But most in the media don't even believe that anymore. And it's the kids who suffer.

Anther Guttmacher (an arm of planned parenthood) report I found said teen pregnancy was down 36% since 1990 and gave credit to abstinence programs. So which is it?
That teenwire site is almost pornographic in its content (Imo). Not only is this new "report" a cry for more money but another attempt to push gardasil on our young girls.
getreligion.org had an interesting take on this report: www.getreligion.org/?p=3273#comments

I looked at the TeenWire site yesterday and my mouth dropped open at what I read. They spent most of two articles about pregnancy bashing the legitimacy of pregnancy resource centers. According to PP-the ONLY legit authority on pregnancy of teenagers is planned parenthood...not a parent, not a trained counselor, or anyone else. Just planned parenthood. Sickening, in my eyes.

And isn't their name misleading? Planned Parenthood. How about Planned Public Income Machine instead?
