The Loudoun Times-Mirror has dropped my column

After four years of publishing a regular column for the Loudoun Times-Mirror, I have received my walking papers.

My guess is that the GLBT activists and supporters - like sharks who've tasted blood after their penguin victory - were demanding "Off with Her Head!" Because I disagreed with them politically, they thought I had no right to be published.

Such are the double standards of the constantly-crying-foul-and-yammering-about-censorship crowd. They want all views represented - as long as they are their views.

So like Animal Farm: All animals equal. Some animals more equal than others.

And I can't help thinking how much I wish people who liked my column had made as much noise as those who didn't. . . .

But it's not like I don't have enough to keep my busy . . . . when I get back from California (I am leaving Monday to visit a mothers' group in Redwood City, and then on to teach at Mount Hermon Writers' Conference) I may go looking for another regular spot.

But you can always find me here :)

I'm sorry Barbara! If I lived near enough to get the Loudoun Times-Mirror I would write a letter.

I am speechless. I am sorry. I am disgusted. This is deeply troubling. I will pray.

Barbara,
The same thing happened to me four years ago.
I was writing a popular column in our paper when I decided to comment on a GLBT group being brought in to talk to a Grade 6 class about figuring out their sexuality when the parents hadn't been informed.

I was fired two weeks later.

I was also rehired by a rival paper the next day, and given a raise, and I now have a far larger circulation. But it was hard to take.

Ironically, the people who supported me raised a huge stink and fuss. Hundreds cancelled their subscriptions because the churches got behind me.

But the paper had a left-wing agenda and that was that.

The only thing I can tell you is "rejoice when you are persecuted for His sake". It doesn't feel like it, but God is close to those who suffer for Him.

You can read the column that made them fire me here.

Blessings, and lots of prayers,
Sheila.

Barbara,

THANK YOU for standing up for the truth and for being willing to "take the heat" from these people. PLEASE don't give up, don't take it too hard, and keep marching in the Lord's army.
