Justin's playing soccer!

We're really not a soccer family - over the years my kids have done Pop Warner football, Little League, Challenger Little League, swim team, Special Olympics basketball. . . .I'm sure there's probably something else but I can't think what it is.

My grandchildren do soccer because their dad, Kip, was a soccer player. In fact, he recently joined an adult soccer league and played a couple games until he injured his shoulder. Some dreams die hard.

Anyway, I suddenly realized this could be a good sport for Justin. He is on a team with kindergartners from school. And here I am - old enough to be his grandmother - starting yet another round of sports down on the soccer fields Saturday morning.

But this made it worth it:

For those new to this site, Justin is my fourth son with Down syndrome (third adopted). They're all so different. While for a while they all did the same things together, we're finding as they get older they each have their own individual strengths - things they love to do.

I think Justin is gonna love soccer.

Love,

Barbara,

Ahhh, welcome, from one soccer-mom to another.

Baseball didn't really work for my active boys... too much standing around, waiting for something to happen. Now, soccer is a huge success, because they can run run run for the whole hour-long game!

I love the bottom picture. You can see, even from the side, that he is just beaming!

And I have to tell you how envious I am of your weather. I have three boys who all play soccer, spring and fall. We had a 7:30am warm-up for an 8am game this morning, with two others following it. And "warm-up" is a real laugh (but not so funny!) as it was 28F and snowing!

We haven't had anyone suggest a practice on Sundays (which I think I would refuse). All the games are scheduled for Saturdays, too. Except for the occasional make-up game. We are scheduled to play three games tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, which had to be cancelled the last weekend of March, due to three inches of snow on the field!

And, would you believe, there is possible snow forecast tomorrow?! Even in the Pacific Northwest, that is unusual this time of year!

Have fun,

Julie

Oh! Look at the smile on Justin's face! It makes your heart melt! I think you're right...He's gonna love it!

We just had our Australian Jr Nationals for Special Olympics and as well as their individual sport that they were selected to compete for the kids all played a team sport and I was with the soccer.. It was amazing!... My team was made of with kids from 2 different states who competed in different individual events... the way they came together as a team and played left me speechless!
Our special kids are amazing :)
