Loudoun Schools: Hats off to Harmony Intermediate!

IMG_9827.JPG

I'd gotten a heads-up that Jonny and Maddy would both be receiving awards at Harmony Intermediate on Tuesday, so you can bet I was there.

What I liked the most was hearing Principal Sherron Gladden - who's done an admirable job and is right up there on my School Hero list - and teachers talk about what a wonderful class the LVHS class of 2011 is shaping up to be.

Kind. Compassionate. Aren't these the words we'd most like to hear applied to our teens? I heard those words applied to Harmony students on Tuesday.

I loved the spirit of inclusion evidenced in the assembly and the distribution of awards. As Jonny's teacher, Mrs. Beitz told the class: "You look at your peers for what they can do as opposed to what they can't do."

Amen to that. And thanks to all the kids who've welcomed Jonny - and other kids who are just a little different - as a friend. You've made the world a better place.

Love,
