Alex Barton - update 7

alex708.jpg

I shipped our last Care Package to Alex last week. His mom Melissa wrote:

Alex says THANK YOU!

I am very appreciative of the support that everyone has provided thus far. It has been a long road and we have a far journey ahead of us. We are taking the case to federal court and I expect that this will be a landmark case for autism.

I know what it is like to have my own son loved by the world.

As Martin Luther King Jr once said, "A time comes when silence is betrayal".

Your kind letters and cards speak volumes.

God bless you all.

Your friends

Love,

Melissa: You have my admiration, not only in the extent to which you have supported your son, but also in a "small" thing which I find large: we received a thank you note from Alex with your help. I have been saddened at the almost universal abandonment of the thank you note. Wedding gifts, graduation gifts . . . once in awhile I hear roundabout from the mother of the bride, "Oh, people are too busy today to do thank you notes". I feel like snapping that I'm too busy to shop for gifts, but that would defeat the point of protesting against a decline in manners ;-).
You are teaching Alex such an important thing, lighting the flame of gratitude and grace toward others. I know this cannot be easy with the volume of mail you received, and I admire and appreciate this that you are doing.
