Memo to Loudoun County Public Schools - stop over-airconditioning! Please!

freezing-cold-resized.jpg

Speaking of over-air-conditioning, my kids are involved in a summer program held in Loudoun County Public Schools in which the director's letter to parents contained a warning to send a sweater with kids because the school's auditorium is so cold.

Unfortunately, that's not the exception, but the rule. My daughter at Harmony left for school every day wearing a sweatshirt because she said the school is way too cold.

I remember being at a School Board meeting a couple winters ago when the subject of heat came up. As I recall, the temperature is mandatory throughout the district. It was pointed out that a difference in one degree could add up to thousands and thousands of dollars saved annually.

One irony during these uncertain financial times when individual families are facing hardships and cutbacks is to see our school system continue to spend money (our tax dollars) unneccesarily.

How about keeping our schools at a more reasonable temperature?

Love,

Oh, I can sympathize with your children!

My middle school was way over-airconditioned. The kicker was, we were FORBIDDEN to wear jackets or coats in class! I don't remember much from my 8th grade science class, other than trying to sidle up to the bunsen burner.

When I was in high school the school was kept purposely cold to discourage girls from wearing skimpy clothing. Might have been better if parents just told their daughters to dress appropriately for school.
