August Book Sale!

IMG_6673-1.JPG

*sigh*

These books aren't doing anyone any good sitting on my shelf - or tucked away in boxes in closets. I really want you all to have them - especially now that I'm moving and having to lug them to another house.

The problem is - and I never knew this before being published - authors have to buy their own books. I pay around half the retail (around 6.50 per book) plus shipping to get them to my house.

Then I wait for people to buy them. Then I pay paypal for handling the transaction.

Still, I really want them off my shelf and out of my closets and in the hands of people who want to read them. So I'm repeating the deal I cooked up last August:

Buy three, get one free! - Any assortment of my books you want. Right now, I'm listing my books for 9.99 - you can see them all here.

Shipping is a flat $3 in the US no matter how many books you buy.

To take advantage of this offer, order three books using the paypal cart, then email me and tell me which book you want free. I will autograph the books and send them within 24 hours.

If you buy six, you get two free - nine, three free. And so on.

Why would you want to buy so many books? Well, you might get them for presents for baby showers. You might want to do a study group with a group of moms to talk about what you've read. Though they're not Bible studies, I know some groups of moms have done this with Lord, Please Meet Me in the Laundry Room and The Mommy Manual. I could see a group of moms who wanted to get into the Montessori at home approach with preschoolers might be encouraged by forming a small group to read, meet and discuss Mommy, Teach Me! and Mommy, Teach Me to Read!.

If you can't afford the books, I still want you to read them. Go to your local library and see if they are there (they're in mine). If not, ask them to order them for you (they'll probably go to the publisher for them, which is fine with me - as long as everyone who wants to read them has a chance.

If you are wondering about the books, please look them up at amazon and read the reader reviews to see what other mothers have to say about them.

Here are three reviews of Mommy, Teach Me! and Mommy, Teach Me to Read!:

Only a few more weeks 'til September - and I always find September is a great time for making a fresh start with children! These books are so reader-friendly - it's a great way to get yourself prepared.

Good for you for shamelss self promotion Barbara! You are taking care of your family by selling your books and that is totally respectable, and you do it in such a respectful way. I sure wish I would be buying right now but my husband was laid two months ago and is still searching, so can I do some shameless self-promotion of my own and say can I ask for the discount when he does get a job and I can shop again? Thanks for considering my request.

I have to tell you a story about your book. Even though I don't know how it ends yet. Our neighbors have 4 children. The older ones play with ours quite a bit. The first was conceived when her mom was just 17 and her parents were married shortly after they were born. She didn't even know she was pregnant again with baby number 4 until 2 months before his due date. Her husband has been going steadily down hill since losing his job last year and she tells me he's been getting high a lot. She lost her baby to social services for 3 months after he was born, partly because of her husband and because he didn't think they could pay for another baby and was worried that he was not going to be healthy because she didn't know and wasn't taking care of herself.
She has her baby back and her husband has to get tested for drugs every month or she could lose them all. She's trying to move out on her own just so that she doesn't have to worry about him not passing a test again. (If he's not in the same house it's not an issue.)

Needless to say I have been praying for her off and on a lot. And with hope. I keep remembering your story when I pray for her and it keeps reminding me that God can turn anything around, even if it doesn't look very hopeful from my perspective.

Last weekend while I was praying for her, I suddenly remembered The Mommy Survival Guide, which came free with my order last year. I just kept feeling like I should give it to her, but I really didn't want to because I didn't want to insult her. She's sometimes strangely, to me, defensive. But I took it over with something else I had to return and showed it to her.

I started with, "I don't know if you want this..it came free with some other books I bought. This woman has 12 kids..." She literally grabbed it out of my hands, and pulled it close to her exclaiming, "Oh I want that. I'll read this for sure. Thank-you so much."

That's all I know so far. So you can tell your cover artist they did a good job:) I'm praying your wise words will help, will help her to find her way to the kind of mother she wants to be, and to the one who can help her become that.

Thanks Barbara
