Steven Curtis Chapman family on Larry King Live

As the Chapmans' manager explained on their blog, meeting the requests of the media for interviews following the death of their youngest daughter is definitely not something they relish.

But they do it because as Christians in the public eye, they have the responsibility to demonstrate how God demonstrates his love for us - even through the most unbearable circumstances.

I didn't catch Larry King's interview, but someone has posted it in six parts at YouTube. If you can get through the sensationalized intro and Larry's unpleasantly distinctive voice, it is reassuring to see a Christian icon - and his wife - who are authentic and willing to sacrifice in order to be the message-bearers God has asked them to be.

Part 1:

Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6

Now, the unexpected finale - sent to me by Kari: while expressing his own unbelief, Larry is mystified/attracted/undone by the Chapmans' quiet assurance of God's presence in their lives. See what he says on About Last Night.

Reminds me of this picture by Norman Rockwell, which I use when I teach Christian writers to illustrate how I think our writing should be - quietly confident and profoundly winsome.

Larry's approaching the end of his days. Who knows but that God may use the Chapmans' tragedy to awaken something deep within his soul? Let's do pray for Larry - even as we continue to pray for the Chapmans.

Love,

Thank you for sharing that Barbara. I also pray that God will use the Chapman family's quiet faith in our Saviour to change the heart of Larry King. I was surprised also by his words, and in awe of my God, and the way He moves in the hearts and minds of even unbelievers. I just couldn't make it through all of the interview with the Chapman's, I am just sitting here crying; my heart aches for them, but I am also praising the Lord for the peace He gives to their family, daily, hour by hour.

The boys and I watched a bit of the chapmans on Larry King, and On " Good Morning America". I know that God is going to use this tragedy for his glory. Let's continue to keep them in prayer. I am sure that the interviews were emotional for them, and they especially need our prayers after they just shared their faith publicly.
