Beyond Obama: 2008 referendum on socialism

Make no mistake. This election is a referendum on socialism. I've been saying this since Obama's "spread the wealth" comment and the last debate opened up the discussion to the subtext that has always been hidden beneath the campaign veneer.

Others - everyday citizens like me - are saying so too. From today's Concord Monitor (NH):

Obama: fast track to socialism

For the Monitor
October 19, 2008 - 12:00 am

The 2008 election is truly a referendum on our 232-year-old American experiment. Globalism has created a tri-polar universe putting America's free-market democracy in conflict with theocracies of Islam and ideologies of socialism. If Barack Obama has his way, our nation will capitulate on the American experiment and take the fast track to socialism.

Consider a few facts: If you are a small business, you pay 15.3 percent business tax, but Obama proposes you pay 30.3 percent. If your household brings in $100,000 or more, you are in the top 10 percent of income earners who pay 70 percent of all income taxes. Fifty percent of the income earners pay 97 percent of all income taxes, while the other 50 percent pay only 3 percent. One percent of the income earners pay 39 percent of all of the income tax while making the decisions that create millions of jobs.

Barack can hide from his history and run from his record, but his policies say it all. "Change you can believe in" will put an end to the American experiment.

SAMUEL KJELLMAN

Weare

Thank goodness the reality of this election has been made crystal clear through direct quotes from Obama himself and the iconic Joe the Plumber. This way, if my fellow citizens are - in my opinion - so foolish as to vote a socialist regime into power, I will can better accept the results knowing that they were given fair warning.

Whether people understand why socialism is not a good idea for our country is another question. But if the voting population is so lulled by consumption and entertainment, and gullible to the ingratitude and envy fomented by liberals that they will not take the time to educate themselves about what is at stake - well, there's nothing I can do about that except continue over the next 16 days to communicate exactly how grave the choice is that we face.

As a former Weather Underground/SDS wannabe/sympathizer, and a refugee from California, I can tell you that what has happened is that people like Bill Ayers and the founder of Acorn (connected to the SDS) and their network of anti-America agitators have risen through the system working tirelessly for this very moment. Obama, while not completely a puppet, is the representative of all that they desire to accomplish in overthrowing the traditional moral and political structure of America.

Younger generations, having been educated in a public school system which has been successfully infiltrated by these people, do not have the first hand knowledge that people my age who came out of that background have. Those of us who came out of the radical anti-America milieu are not crazy conspiracy theorists - we are people who've been watching our country take a serious turn away from the principles on which it was founded.

Please listen carefully to the voices outside the political mainstream. I will be posting here very heavily over the next couple weeks, sharing information you need to make an informed decision - and which I hope you can share with family and friends.

I am not choosing my subject matter here on the basis of whether it might bother people or lose readers or ad revenue. I am choosing it based on what I see as an urgent need to bring people up to speed on what is at stake.

Make no mistake: There have been numerous signals that one of the first goals of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid camp will be to shut down free speech. This means the end of talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham. And it could eventually spell the end of Internet freedom. Socialism depends of control of information. The mainstream media is already in compliance - except for Fox News, which Obama has already targeted in his petulant rant about being denied a couple percentage points because they haven't portrayed him to his liking (Compare with the fact that we have Oliver Stone's W - which ridcules and misrepresents a sitting President/Commander-in-Chief during war time).

With the Mainstream Media in lockstep with the Democrat party, voter fraud financed with your tax dollars, a Democrat campaign which is raking in hundreds of millions of dollars from undisclosed sources, there is only one way that we can defeat Obama and a socialist future for this country - by talking to everyone you know, sincerely and from the heart, about the true issues.

When the election is over, I intend to pray for whoever is the winner as well as for our country and all its citizens.

In the meantime I will follow this advice - attributed in some various places to St. Augustine, St. Ignatius, and St. Benedict.

It is Catechism # 2834 of the Catholic Church:

2834 "Pray and work."

"Pray as if everything depended on God and work as if everything depended on you."

Even when we have done our work, the food we receive is still a gift from our Father; it is good to ask him for it and to thank him, as Christian families do when saying grace at meals.

They say God gives us the leaders we deserve. I am praying that God's mercy will prevail.

Please stop what you are doing and focus the next two weeks on helping to defeat Obama and socialism. I really mean this. Homeschooling can consist of teaching your children the issues and getting involved. Call your local McCain headquarters. We do not have a parallel group to ACORN. We have to do this ourselves - without being paid by our government - by our own blood, sweat and tears.

We all need to make this top priority - just for two weeks. Our children's future depends on it.

Love,

My children and I went to the headquarters, and I made phone calls today.

Thank you for encouraging us to get out there. We can make a difference!

Have you seen the call for a Rosary Novena beginning on Oct. 27th? It is at fathercorapi.com

Bishop Martino of Scranton pretty much spanked Catholics who support Obama when he showed up at a forum being held at a Catholic church in his parish. Please support the Bishop in your prayers, and if you are in his diocese, with your phone calls. We need more Bishops like this. You can read about it at this link:
