Easy step-by-step drawing for kids
Hi Barbara,I am reading your book and yesterday checked out the blog for the first time. I have found a lot of useful tips there.
My son turned 3 in Feb - He knows his alphabets, numbers till 100 and we are doing sight words. We started writing practice 2 months back.
I was wondering if you have any sites/books that give a step-by-step direction for drawing - funny animals/stick man from either alphabets or basic shapes. He loves to use water colors and so I was interested in introducing him to basic drawing instead of giving him already printed pages.
Any other suggestions for his age group are welcome as well..
Please let me know
Thanks
- Deepti
Here are some free resources to get started:
Easy Animal Step-by-Step Drawing for Kids has lessons like this:

BillyBear4Kids has step-by-step drawings.
For older kids: Art Made Easy.
I found these by Googling - step by step drawing children and clicking around. I am listing some free resources, but there were also some links to books and software available. And maybe some readers can chime in?

Deepti,
The I Can Draw books by Usborne Playtime are awesome. I Can Draw Animals is the easiest and most fun to start with for a younger child. (The turtle, for example, starts with a circle, adding a triangular tail, 4 simple legs sticking out the sides, a head and eyes, then shows ways the shell might.)

The book "Drawing with Children" is WONDERFUL. I've used it for homeschool art and highly recommend it.

My son is 5 and loves to draw. Some of his favorites are:
- Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals
- I Can Draw People - Usborne Playtime
- I Can Draw Animals - Usborne Playtime
- Usborne Drawing Fun: Fun with Pencils

I second (third?) the recommendation of the Usborne "I Can Draw...." books. A friend of mine who teaches art at an elementary school commented that they're the first books he's come across that actually work well with the way little kids draw. My kids love them, too!
And if you order them through this link, Barbara will even get a portion of the sale, thanks to an old affiliate program we set up a while back.
