I'm speaking to moms in Potomac Falls tomorrow
I will be doing one of my favorite things tomorrow - meeting moms to share whatever I can to "unburden, enlighten, and equip" (from my mission statement) them to find more joy in their calling as mothers.
I was invited to a meeting of the Mothers Faith Formation group which meets twice a month at Our Lady Of Hope Catholic Church in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
I will be talking about
*how to incorporate Montessori principles into your daily family living -
*how to release your child's God-given potentials
*how to untap the joy God has for us in the mother/child relationship
- and anything else that moms would like to talk about.
I would like to invite anyone in shouting distance to come tomorrow. You don't have to be Catholic or even religious in any way to attend. And I promise you that you will be comfortable no matter where you're coming from spiritually. I'm more interested in our common ground as mothers and in encouraging moms in any way I can.
Here's the scoop about the Moms' Faith Formation Group:
Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, in Potomac Falls, is a parish of about 1,200 families. The parish was formed in October of 2000, and moved into our brand new, beautiful Church and school in the Fall of 2005.Early in the life of the parish, a small group of women formed the Mom's Faith Formation Group (MFF). We were mothers of primarily young children, looking for fellowship and a way to learn from each other about raising our children, running our households, and growing in our faith. As we had no parish facilities, the group began meeting twice a month at my home, with children welcome and babysitting provided in our basement playroom.
We have welcomed speakers on topics such as: organization, financial management (to encourage stewardship), Advent traditions, Humility, Raising Boys in the Faith, and had some fun with things like a sharing of our favorite books and movies and a recipe exchange.
As the years passed, the group has grown and is a vital part of this active parish. We now meet in our parish hall, with the children in another room playing under supervision. The core MFF group still centers around a twice monthly meeting in the morning with coffee, refreshments, and a roundtable topic or a featured speaker. In addition, the group has branched out to include a book club, various Bible studies, evening events with our husbands, and playgroups. Some of us are even in the early stages of discussing a preschool coop.
Our meetings take place on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 am - 11:00 am, with the speaker typically beginning at 9:45 and ending by 10:45 or so. Many of us stick around after 11 to socialize and share each other's company, but we like to have the program complete before then for moms meeting Kindergarten buses or doing pre-school pick-ups.
We meet in the Parish Meeting room, and there are 2-3 moms on duty in the larger Parish Hall for childcare. Volunteers have all been through the Diocesan Virtus training. In there, we have toys and room for the kids to spread out. Children are also welcome to stay quietly with mom if that's what makes them more comfortable.
I will have books with me for anyone who wants to purchase them. And am happy to autograph books you all bring.
I hope you will feel welcome to come!
