    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!

Advent begins Sunday November 30

My suggestion: skip shopping Friday. I'm going to get up early and start blogging Advent.

Remember when I said we can turn away from our disappointment with the election and focus on building more richness into our families and the heritage we are building in those God entrusted to our care.

I am finding this healing - I hope you are too. Right now I am off to brine the turkey and plan our family photo. As soon as everyone is settled again, I will be blogging how we plan our Thanksgiving Day to focus on the spiritual, traditional and enduring message of the day.

Tomorrow I will have a special Thanksgiving message.

Friday we begin planning Advent and Christmas.

Love,

Barbra,

Have you seen this site:

http://www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Advent/

I was looking for some resources on advent for this year as I didn't want it to be just another "thing" I did - I wanted it to mean something to me. Anyway, this site has some really great thoughts and pages on the purpose behind advent and how to really soak yourself in the beauty of this Christmas season.

I just saw this quote on another blog, and it definitely puts things into perspective:

"The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving." H.U. Westermayer

I'll look forward to your Advent ideas, Barbara. I'm skipping all of the shopping on Friday, too. I plan to spend it with my family, decorating for Christmas, and making memories. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
