Zogby: How Obama Got Elected - and me on where we're going
Food for thought:
Zogby Poll512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points
97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates
Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions
57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)
71.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)
82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)
88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)
56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).
And yet.....
Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes
Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter
And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!
Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.
Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)
For more, see How Obama Got Elected.
HT to Amelia.
I found myself crying while watching this. While I wanted so badly to give Obama the benefit of a doubt, it is glaringly obvious that he doesn't deserve it: from his cabinet appointments (Tom Daschle, A Pro-Life Nightmare to Secretary of Health and Human Services), ongoing behind-the-scenes contacts by his operatives with enemies of the U.S., and his plans to move forward quickly and heavy handedly with executive orders and on pro-abortion policies (euphemistically known as the Freedom of Choice Act) and repealing freedom of speech (morphing from the Fairness Doctrine into a more subtle approach called "localism" which you can get up-to-speed on with Mike Thompson today at Human Events: Obama's New "Fairness Doctrine")
While I won't be discussing news daily here, I am monitoring it and hope you are keeping an eye on things yourselves so you can help educate your family and friends as we start to see the Obama juggernaut move into high gear.
It is already estimated that his coronation inauguration will break the bank in Washington DC. It is expected to cost five times what Bush's inauguration cost. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Obama used some of that record-breaking unaccounted for campaign cash to help Washington, DC? Didn't Michelle promise that they wanted to be a positive force in the community? This would certainly be a good start.
Or wouldn't it be nice if in these tough economic times they might forgo some of the pomp and circumstance and save the taxpayers some money?
Anyway, please check The Drudge Report at least once a day for headlines. I've been using the Drudge Report since 1997 when he began. The media continues to trash Matt Drudge for one reason: he has been responsible for uncovering stories the media wanted buried and delivering them faithfully to readers for 11 years in a simple and unique format. He averages over 20 million visits per day. You can count on him for breaking news with no spin. I'm adding a link to my sidebar to make it easy. Great article on Drudge: Why the Drudge Report is one of the best-designed sites on the web.
The American people spoke, but I believe they were manipulated by our media. John Zeigler, who created the clip above, has taken tremendous heat from the Left . Zeigler's response is worth reading. The media have installed their Dream King and I doubt if they will ever find fault with him at all. The silence surrounding his appointments of Clinton hacks is amazing, considering he campaigned on a platform of change. And they will protect and defend him by savaging any critic, no matter how well-reasoned or fair.
Don't even get me started on McCain, who was never a conservative and only got my vote because his nomination of Palin affirmed his pro-life credentials. Stupid Republicans who say this defeat is a mandate for moving the party away from conservative Christian values are dead wrong. They had their way - ran their "moderate" "maverick" "reach-across-the-aisles" guy - and he didn't win, did he? Yet we still have to listen to their "this proves that we need to stop catering to the conservatives" spin. They remind me of the nerdy little kids who want to be liked by the popular kids in school and will do anything to be accepted - even though they never really are - as witness McCain. He just cannot get over currying favor with his political opponents - and we are probably going to see the most outrageous behavior from him yet. The savaging of Sarah Palin was beyond disgusting - and shows how much a real person she is and how afraid Democrats and their-own-agenda Republicans are of her. To my knowledge, McCain never rose to her defense. Yuck.
If the Republicans had run a conservative candidate who had integrity and authenticity, he would be on his way to the White House now instead of the most inexperienced, radical leftist and friend to America-haters president we've ever seen. States with open primaries are largely to blame for that as Democrats deliberately turned the Republican primaries to McCain. If you have time to get involved in your state politics, that is a good place to start - get rid of open primaries.
In the meantime, try to keep us as much as you can through Internet sites and people like Rush and Laura. If you have never listened to Rush, you are missing a real treat. He is intelligent, articulate, upbeat, humorous - and I think what I love most about him - a true believer in the American spirit and the freedom/strength/resourcefulness/God-given ability of the individual. He is a good remedy for whining and hopelessness.
I have listened to Rush since 1990 when the liberals did their best to smear a truly great African-American newly nominated to the Supreme Court: Clarence Thomas. That was the event that got me interested in politics again - only now as a former radical leftist who could see the ugliness and hate of the left for what it is. Not to mention the fascist dictator tendencies which with a radical leftist president and congress are sure to begin dismantling our freedoms. Yes, Obamaniacs will have "Freedom of Choice" but those of us who oppose his policies - if Obama has his way - are looking at the loss of our freedom of speech.
Change is coming, all right. William Ayers now seems on his way to becoming a circuit guest speaker on college campuses - what a wonderful world for this unrepentant terrorist against the people of his country!
Conservatives and Christians better hunker down and get ready for the assault on our democracy. Which means we must be stronger in our faith, hold our families close and keep telling the truth to everyone we meet. Make this Thanksgiving one in which you begin to reinforce the historical Christian roots of our nation - the blessing, the purpose and the meaning.

Thank you Barbara for such a timely and comprehensive post. I plan to forward it to many in my address book. What are your thoughts about fighting the (truly frightening) localism? I assume that we should all write our representatives, calling it by name and demanding that they protect the First Amendment. If there have been any bright spots during this dark time, it has got to be the boost to the unification of the Body of Christ. There were a record 16 people at the local PP yesterday morning, Catholic and Protestant. I am also encouraged by the strong statements coming from the US bishops.
I am so glad that Tripp is home and that your family received the help you needed. Awesome! You and your family remain in my prayers.

Yes, it is easy to see a very trying time coming.
Don't lose heart though. Our God has a few surprises for the left, I think.
Yes, I believe there is going to be increasing polarization, but I also believe that if this had to happen, now is the time. In a few years, the left would have an even tighter hold on the young through the media. The further we get from Reagan, the harder it will be for young people to learn how great this country is, how unique. We lost this in a fairly tight race. When the honeymoon is over, there are going to be quite a few very unhappy people out there. When the need arises for leadership, I truly believe that a leader will come forth. A real leader.
As for Rush, he's gonna lead us from the internet! I feel sorry for radio. Talk is all they really have, and if Rush has to stream off a private site, well, he will.
I have to be very careful not to go to the dark side of my mind. We are called to joy, even in the midst of darkness. If I think too much I get so wrapped up in where this could go...

Well, I was going to send you this link days ago, but thought you were going to take a break from all of this, for your own sanity :)!!! These are scary times. I am thankful we can, "Fall on Jesus and live".

wow. Not to be mean, but you're attitude is a classic reason the rest of the world hates America. No good can come of being too far left or too far right because you immediately alienate those who don't 100% agree with your beliefs or politics. This country is a melting pot of different races, religions, dreams and values. Remove the labels of Democrat and Republican and just try to look at Obama as a leader, better yet, just a person who is about to take on the biggest mess any American president has ever had to deal with. I personally have hope in the newly elected President. Hopefully, you eventually will too.

This makes me sick! Unfortunately, it only confirms what I was already thinking about the demographic of those that voted for "Nobama."

here is a link that gives witness to McCain actually quietly backing up Palin. I, like you, was only voting because of Palin on his side. Thanks for all your informative writing!
On another note, I just ordered your Mommy, teach me. Im excited to get it and hopefully reiterate my parenting skills learned from the big family I came from (oldest of 7)!

I KNEW it was the open primaries which got McCain on the ballot! But the absolute lack of that information in the news made me feel like I had just made that up. Thank you for getting the truth out there, Barbara. Now time for our knees to get bruises as we pray for over our new President for the next 4 years!

Jen,
Barbara's "attitude" has nothing to do with why the world hates America. I suggest doing some research on what the world has had to say about President-elect Obama (Bin Laden's second in command" Ayman al-Zawahri just came out with a statement about him recently - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PSPbtyNzow), not to mention former Democrats. How about starting with this, from Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhaw, In a fatwa published on the eve of the U.S. elections:
"Whoever thinks that the Democrats are less hostile to [the Arabs] than the Republicans should know that the number of Iraqis killed during the siege [of Iraq] by the Democrat Bill Clinton is twice as high as the number of [Iraqis] killed by the Republican [George] Bush.
"The Democrats kill you slowly without you noticing it - and therein lies the danger. They are like a snake whose touch is not felt until its poison enters your body."
If I'm not mistaken, Barbara is upset by the how ill-informed the public actually is, even during election months. Sadly, you just proved her point by your claim that far-right conservative values are the reason we're hated. We're going to be hated no matter who is in charge of our nation. Research how many times our nation was attacked by terrorists (here or abroad) under the Clinton administration!
Moreover, your argument that to be too far left or too far right is not a good thing would be funny if it weren't also true that Barack Obama is, even according to Democrats, the furthest Left president for our nation yet. By your own argument, Barack Obama automatically alienates nearly half of America.
If you've spent any time here at MommyLife, you'd know that Barbara has encouraged the utmost respect for President-elect Obama. However, she's quite right in that the policies of the Democratic party are going to endanger many of our freedoms as outlined in the Bill of Rights, just as they have in the past.
Speaking for myself, I am a huge proponent of first and second amendment rights for starters - and I, like many people around the nation have grave concerns for what an Obama administration means for those rights, among others.

Jen, do you realize how funny it is that you tell Barbara that "she is the reason the world hates America" while at the same time admonishing her for being polarizing?

Umm, Jen? You have made a bit of an embarrassing mistake here. I would suggest you read a little more of this blog before you make such uninformed and ignorant (in the true sense of the word)comments. In addition to the information you will find about Barbara and her views, many of her devoted readers are in fact, from other countries.

Wealthy Christians are wasting their time trying to "buy" elected office for like-minded candidates--the power is really in the medium of media. We need to own it, and we need to work it from the inside. The talking heads are obviously more powerful than the politicians.
