Cough cure: Vicks on feet

Vicks%20vaporab_s.JPGOne of my most popular entries - at least by way of Google referrals - is the one I did asking the effectiveness of curing coughs by rubbing Vicks on feet. If you go there and read the comments, you will find much affirmation - including skeptics who became believers after conducting experiments in their own laboratories. Meaning at home with their kids.

Here's a comment that came in last night:

Here I am at 2am in the morning searching through the Internet because my daughter cannot sleep because of her coughing. I was giving her cough medicine , rubbed Vicks on her chest,etc...nada, nothing was working. I felt so bad because she looked so tired and worn.

Then I found this message board and read about rubbing Vicks on feet. Hmmm...I said I'll give it a try. And even though my tired daughter looked at me funny, I rubbed Vicks on her feet and put socks on.

Then I said do you want a warm lemon drink with honey. She said yes, but by the time I had prepared the drink and brought it upstairs...SHE WAS ASLEEP. I will keep on doing this. Thanks for sharing...

If you haven't tried this, I just recommend that you have a jar of Vicks on hand and the next time you are desperate, give it a try.

Love,

I never heard of this before. It reminds me of the scene in Little Women where Marmee rubs Beth's feet with vinegar or something.

Very interesting. When I told my Japanese husband about this he said that he's not surprised. He told me that in Japan they say that the feet are the "second heart" (heart, as in the organ that pumps our blood), meaning that the bottom of the feet have a big influence on our bodies and health.

We will definitely give this a try the next time someone has a cough!

When my husband told me about this, he said I looked at him like he had two heads! We've done it twice for our 7 year old's croupy nighttime cough---AND IT WORKED! In 5 mins he was sleeping soundly--and not a peep until morning. I'm getting ready to try it on him for daytime today.
Good luck. I know, bizarre.

It definitely works! I have tried just rubbing Vicks on my 3 year old son's chest, which doesn't relieve the coughing at all, but as soon as I put it on the bottom of his feet...YAY! A good night's sleep for both of us!

I am almost 71 and have never had any problems with coughing - last night I was up until 4:45 am(and I had tried many things at that point) when I remembered the email........... I went and put vicks on the bottom of my feet - put my socks on and went to bed. No coughing for at least 4 hours when I got up... I think the coughing is a dry cough from some medication I am taking but it worked...
