Inauguration: Rick Warren, diversity, Catholics dissed - your thoughts?

While the gay activist community has railed and wailed about Obama's choice of Rick Warren to offer the Invocation at the Inauguration, some Christian thinkers don't see this as an unqualified blessing for us.

In light of the hasty creation (or modification?) of a Pre-Inaugural Event to include the infamous homosexual Bishop Robison to offer his own version of prayer - promised to be Jesus-, Christianity-, and Bible-free so as not to offend anyone - we are left to wonder exactly what were Obama's intentions in his royal nod to America's most-read (25 million books and counting) evangelical pastor.

Some thinking believers remain cynical - and are waiting to see how bold Warren is in his opportunity to pray the true needs of our nations to demonstrate shttp://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hkHaP9MQJsgNUOuMtZ2kT8XFAMbAD95N4BU80oical justice across the board, including the most defenseless human beings - before passing final judgment. See Mark's Blog - A Little Mutual Back Scratching for this take: Warren is jockeying to replace Billy Graham as the Pastor to Presidents.

Catholics: unwelcome in the Obama Nation? Do you think someday we may be wearing armbands?

I certainly don't think it is out of the question that Catholics may have to wear armbands. And just think about how many Catholic voted for him! I think they will see Obama's true colors very soon, unfortunately. Please Pray!

I, unfortunately, have to wonder not "whether" we will wear them, but *when*. It is unfortunate. What to do?

I was blessed to be able to attend daily Mass today, with all five dc (8 1/2 and under, two of them 20 mos old twins) in tow. But even for the relative brevity of a daily Mass, it was a powerful one...Father spoke of the need for a return to the confessional...even with communicant rates at all time highs, confession rates are the exact opposite...

I almost didn't go--I mean, 5 little people (the possibility of 2 screaming under twos...and alone? eek!) is enough to potentially cause some real damage to my peace of mind...fortunately, all went well, and I was able to hear some things I have been needing to hear (not about confession--I know I need that)...

Our country--our Catholic people--need to turn back to the confessional. It is so desperately needed...

Til then, we can pray. And pray some more. And offer up our struggles and sacrifices....

Thank you for keeping up the good fight (and please, tell your husband that there are lots of us out here praying for an uneventful recovery from here on out!).

You can almost feel the hatred heating up - against Mormons over Prop 8, against Evangelicals who speak out for biblical principles, but, especially, against Jews and Catholics. I also think it is a matter of when, not if. I am trying to gently prepare my family so we can be alert, sober. We have watched A Man for All Seasons many times, we have read about the life of our beloved Blessed Miguel Pro in Mexico and marvelled over his bravery and creativity in evading the authorities before he was captured and executed. My older son has been reading a lot of books about the Holocaust (the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the Hiding Place), I think I may get Priestblock for him. Lastly - does anyone know of a good DVD of the opera The Dialogue of the Carmelites? I was in tears just listening to Fr. Groeschel describe it. I don't mean to sound defeatist, but I think we need to be aware of the past and realize that our generation is not immune from persecution. Hoping, praying (and going to confession!) for the best.

If so, I would bet that many an evangelical will be right there with them. The way Obama has been operating pre-inauguration gives me the impression that he will actively seek a prominent evangelical who can be shaped adequately to his views, or at least tone down and stifle points of Truth that conflict with Obama nation theology. He could meld them to become the new "christianity", outside of which are bigots, extremists, and the like. Such delineation would be clear enough that even the structurally incohesive "evangelical church" could easily be funneled into two categories, one in, one out.

I miss Mother Teresa. She was gracious and kind to all, but she never hesitated to speak the truth boldly. It didn't matter if she was speaking to some of the most powerful men in the world or talking to a person on the street. I would take one little old Catholic nun or a dozen big time evangelicals any day, and I am a Protestant!
