Krispy Kreme's "Freedom of Choice" campaign- are they clueless or what?
Keeping in mind that currently "Freedom of Choice" is a three-word euphemism for a national act (FOCA) Obama has promised which would repeal all state laws and regulations of abortions - granting women and even the youngest girls the "right" to have their unborn babies killed in the womb up until the day of birth, you may be concerned by this posting by Danielle Bean. While I am publishing her post in its entirety, you will probably want to go to Faith&Family to read all the comments.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts released the following statement yesterday:
"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies--just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet 'free' can be."
Ew.
Maybe this is only a case of corporate ignorance and an astonishingly poor choice of words. I sure hope so.
As LifeSiteNews notes:
"Celebrating his inauguration with "Freedom of Choice" doughnuts - only two days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to decriminalize abortion - is not only extremely tacky, it's disrespectful and insensitive and makes a mockery of a national tragedy."
Perhaps you'd like to let them know what you think of their promotion.
Perhaps this was just stupidity. Let's hope so. But in that case, there should be an acknowledgment and apology.

Barbara - I just had to send them a note. I sincerely hope this was some sort of mistake that will quickly be rectified because us Georgia girls love us some Krispy Kremes:) If not, they've lost a loyal customer.

"..an acknowledgement and apology" for what?? Giving away free doughnuts?? Give me a break! Since when does "freedom of choice" only apply to abortion.
Americans are "free" to "choose" our president and Krispy Kreme is giving away your "choice" of doughnuts.
That is what this is about, it has NOTHING to do with abortion and those who think is something else probably see evil everywhere (but at their own doorstep)
Krispy Kreme has been in business for over 70 years and has a history of being very active in the communities where they have shops.
Last year, they started giving their employees extra days off for Faith, Family and Community. The order of the listing was done on purpose, with Faith coming first.
This is just an insult to a good company that employs good people.
[Note from Barbara -
Jeanne, this is your first comment here, so maybe you haven't been reading here long enough to know that we can disagree without flying off the handle.
Words mean something - as a writer I feel that burden more heavily, but we all know it's true. Unfortunately, the Left has co-opted the phrase "Freedom of Choice" as a euphemism for a rollback of abortion regulation.
So it is offensive - and if Krispy Kreme is as dedicated to Faith, Family and community as they have demonstrated themselves to be in the past, they will understand when they hear from those of us who are concerned. That's how reasonable and compassionate people behave. They use words to communicate, not to browbeat someone with whom they disagree..
Peace,
Barbara]

Hey Barbara, Danielle Bean posted a response from Krispy Kreme over on the Faith & Family blog. Interesting - http://www.faithandfamilylive.com/blog/krispy_kreme_clarifiies/

Right on Barbara!
Words DO have meaning, and I don't buy the claim that Krisy Kreme was clueless. Do a Google search with that phrase and the connection with abortion is obvious.
They just were expecting such an outcry from the blogosphere.
Well done!
