Obamadolatry: Time mag cover 1/4 of year

timecover.jpg This week's cover marks the 13th for Obama in a year.

We are entering an unprecedented era of leader worship in this country. It is being drilled into kids in public schools - many of whom will receive an unprecedented holiday on Inauguration Day. Obama's image is being used to hawk everything from the New York Times - In an ad with Our Fearless Leader waving and script: "It all began November 4" and something to the effect that this is why we should all subscribe to the NYT - to Obama's picture in a display at my local Giant to hawk deli platters for January 20.

obamasuperman.jpgOn November 24, in an article titled Riding Obama's Coattails, Making a Buck Along the Way, the New York Times reported: "Consumers have already spent perhaps as much as $200 million on Obamabilia, two months before he will be inaugurated as the 44th president and another tidal wave of tchotchkes will be unleashed will be unleashed."

I guess the Gray Lady, which still bills itself as the most important newspaper in America, decided it was time to grab those coattails - or cape tails - too.

Would we be surprised if some sweet folks have Obama shrines in their homes?

Even if you are an Obama supporter, you should be concerned about this very dangerous aspect of the Obama Age we have entered. Remember the comparison I drew during the campaign of the brainwashing of America's children and the brainwashing of children under the Hitler regime? While we see Hitler as a monster, he was dearly beloved by the German people, who were on the verge of economic collapse and ready for a savior.

Right now, Obama's image is everywhere - from a cloud of covers at the checkout stand to T-shirts, coffee cups, and who knows? Maybe even Frisbees.

The Congress has relinquished its responsibility to provide checks and balances, approving compromised and corrupt candidates for Cabinet positions (more later). The media have relinquished their job as Fourth Estate to become a free public relations service for the incoming regime. The public education system - in many instances - is as on board for indoctrinating students in Obama-worship as they did 20some years ago in Reagan-hatred (I well remember when my daughter was in third grade at Coleman School in San Rafael, CA and her teacher had the class write letters to Reagan telling him everything that was wrong with him - at the time I was a brainwashed Reagan hater too - didn't find out until I had a more open mind how gifted and intelligent he truly was).

These are certainly dangerous times we live in - and would be scary if we did not have the secure knowledge that God is ultimately in control. Let us pray for our nation and for our leaders - that their hearts would be turned away from power and greed and toward ethical conduct and true compassion for the people they are supposed to be serving.

And pray for the hearts of those who love Obama that they would be able to see him as a human being who has flaws like all of us, and who - like all of us - needs to be confronted and admit when he makes mistakes.

Launching a new category today - Obama Nation - where I will backtrack today to include all my pre-election coverage and move forward as "The Future" so boldly heralded by the NYT begins to unfold. Or unravel.

Love,

From the Obama weirdness wave: My 4 year old with DS can readily point to a picture of "Bama" at the grocery store or the bookstore (From the ever expanding Obama book displays, which must be very deep literature, considering it is being churned out at the same rate as tabloid publications.) What is most interesting is our home is an Obama-free zone. By that I mean that we don't watch the news on TV and any political discussions here are minimal (political discussions don't show pictures of anyone either). So, I can only think that there was some sort of preschool classroom presentation about Obama. I have no idea about the depths of any presentation. A quick post-election discussion would have covered any civics/current events requirements, but for my son, who wouldn't be the very first kid to get the name and face memorized in the class, it was enough for him to get it down pat.

I have been praying about the FOCA and God gently reminded me that He is more powerful than Obama. Sounds so silly, of course He is! But how comforting. Regardless of what Obama signs or doesn't sign, God still has the pwer, and we still have prayer. But I am still praying against FOCA!!! I am also praying that God grants wisdom and clarity to Obama. It's hard, but I do it with a heart that is grateful that my God is an awesome God!

Never has such honor and accolade been bestowed on one who has DONE so little!

The symbolism of a person--any person-- of African descent being elected to the Presidency is a generally momentous thing, granted. But, beyond that, what specifically has made Obama so hallowed and enshrined? How is it that speeches, image and unfulfilled intentions garner that degree of accolade?

I saw in the window of a store today that they were selling sets of three cheap, but very dignified looking portraits, each one done in a similar style, oval, and at least 2 feet tall. Clearly, they were meant to be a set.

You already know who the subjects were, don't you? Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barack Obama, of course. It's profound, moving, and makes perfect sense... if only you don't think or ask to know a single thing that the third member of the trio has DONE to earn his place in the league. What a presumptuous desecration of two of the most worthy American leaders to have graced history!

Whew. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, and thanks for continuing to write as you do.

The shrines are creepy. But I'm not surprised.

The Sunday before election day a woman in our church walked in with huge Obama signs taped to her dress, front and back. I think she was mad because our preacher didn't fall for the Obama worship as was expected of all African Americans.
