Barbara's Book Club: Animal Farm by 3/12

Okay - Oprah's got one. Why can't we?

Here's our first book club book - chosen specifically to equip us to better comprehend the bizarre politics which are now every day life in ObamaNation:

Get a copy from Paperback Swap, your library or buy a used one at Amazon. This is a quick read - 116 pages. Let's do it by March 12. Bloggers can post a review that day and non-bloggers can post their reviews and discuss here.

Have your husband and kids read or re-read this book too. Tell your family and friends. In light of today's shameful political hypocrisy and incipient fascism. In light of today's shameful political hypocrisy and this is a great learning opportunity - and we need to be equipping our kids for whatever comes.

~~~~~~
Remember - you can share this by clicking the Share button below. Please leave your commitment in the comment section - I think this will be a very helpful exercise in helping equip us to better articulate what is wrong with this administration.
Love,
I have been meaning to read this again.
Thanks for a great idea.
I would like to do "Brave New World" sometime as well!
God Bless!
Woo hoo! Way to go, Barbara! I hope this will be the first of many such "book club" offerings! I'll be linking to this post on my blog this afternoon. I always encourage the ladies who read my blog to read, Bibles first, of course, but to read, read, read for their own good as well as for the good of their families. What a great idea!
I just put it on hold at my library, along with the audio version for my husband.
I'm not sure this is a good choice - George Orwell was a socialist, and would have been far more likely to support the Democrat party today if he were alive...he was a member of Britian's Labour Party which is even more left-wing than Obama.
One of Orwell's heroes was Leon Trotsky...If you read Animal Farm, take note of how noble the character of Snowball is portrayed - he is supposed to be Trotsky, a Communist.
[note from Barbara; predicting what Orwell would be today is certainly not an exact science, Cooper. And leftists seem incredibly unaware of being even more guilty of the things they accuse their oppostion of. So it's no surprise that Orwell could have such political insight.
And no matter Orwell's personal political proclivities, the book has themes that resonate today. No ruling elite has degenerated into such Animal Farm piglike hypocrisy so quickly as O&Co in the past month]
Count me in.
Excellent choice Barbara! My husband read this to our boys (11,10, and 9) last year, and it was a great read for them, and generated lots of conversation! This was before the administration switch, and I think it's a great idea to re-read it and see what new conversation it generates.
I wanted to let you know I found a website where you can read "Animal Farm" online for free. Here's the web address;
http://www.george-orwell.org/
Just click on "Animal Farm".
Just ordered my copy from paperback swap!
I'm going to get the audio for my girls to listen to and read it myself - we also have a cartoon of the book. Should make some intersting conversation.
