CNN - Gun sales up in anticipation of Obama/Holder gun restrictions

Eric Holder is bad news for individual rights. Even the "objective" newscasters of CNN point out that gun owners' fears - and subsequent stocking up on guns and ammo - are not without foundation.

btw, did you know that 75% of violent crime in this country does not involve firearms?

My husband grew up with hunting and guns being from the Eastern Shore. He has made sure that all of our boys know how to use and care for a rifle, even though we do not hunt. We do register all of our guns. The town where my husband was raised has a lot of crime with guns and a lot of trouble with unregistered guns as many of them have been in the family for years.

Here in NY, not having the proper papers for guns can get you in big, big trouble. There is an automatic felony charge and jail term associated with having a gun at the scene of any incident even if you are not found guilty of the incident itself. Sometimes it is the ony way some of the worst criminals are able to be jailed as the other laws have so many loopholes. Gun crime is a big problem here. It also means that those who are not criminals but have guns have to abide by the strict laws too.

How were the guns confiscated in California? This is the problem with extremist laws! I don't see a problem with registering guns. We register cars; have to have prescriptions for meds, check out library books, file tax returns. Yes, there are those who do not abide by those laws but if they are caught, there are the penalities to grab them. But when those who are abiding by those laws are punished for no good reason, that is an abomination and a direct affront to our second amendment rights.

In honor of the Obama inauguration, I purchased a new semi-automatic firearm.

Yes, it's a vintage 45/66 Yugoslavian SKS carbine. It has a fixed (non-removable) 10 shot clip and is chambered for the ever popular Soviet bloc 7.62x39 cartridge.

This beauty sports a wicked looking bayonet and a rifle grenade launcher on the muzzle. One of the reasons I like it is it's going to give the liberals fits just looking at it. It is currently legal under C&R (Curio and Relic) rules as long as I don't modify it (which I don't plan on).

This will be wonderful for harvesting deer in the fall, and for target shooting in the summer.

It just arrived at my FFL dealer and I go and pick it up tomorrow.

Now I'm going to have to buy a few thousand rounds of army surplus ammo.
