Fatherless Express Blues/Do we need to have a psychological profile for presidential candidates?
From Tripp:"Nothing doth more hurt in a state than that cunning men pass for wise." --Sir Francis BaconTwo weeks into the new era of hope and change and the wheels are already coming off the bus. I am not speaking of the circumstances that are unfolding, but rather from a character standpoint. I don't think any of us foresaw that the spiral downward would be obvious so quickly..... but circumstances reveal our character. In many ways, there seems to be a close parallel to the first weeks of the Clinton presidency....kind of like a dog who loves chasing cars, but doesn't know what he'd do with it if he caught one....and then he does catch one....."Now what do I do!?"
I think that the psychological/spiritual wounding of these two men as fatherless boys has affected their character and perception of life. Culturally, spiritually, and morally our nation has declined dramatically since our founding 233 years ago. At that time there were fatherless children as there are now, but usually because the father had died...not because the father was a "player," decided he wanted a younger model, divorced because of "irreconcilable differences," or some other (sin) excuse. When a man practices immorality(sin) there are consequences that affect not only those physically around him at that time, but potentially the resulting children(child.) Both Barbara and I have seen this in our own lives and in the world around us. I am not saying that a life affected by these circumstances can't be redeemed through God's plan of love, grace, redemption, and sanctification...but that happens only that if God and His will for our lives is sought after.
This seems very apparent when looking at the lives of former Pres. Clinton and now Pres. Obama. Both of these men are a reflection of contemporary culture....they each have a deep-seated drive to be adulated by everyone, be all things to all people, a brooding arrogance (which shows a lack of true self esteem). Both are defensive, married to strong-willed, powerful, dominant women, obsessed with image, and extremely ego-centric. Both sought political office out of a spirit of ego rather than selfless service.
Throughout our nation's history our presidents have had their foibles and baggage that they brought to the White House.....but not to the extent we are seeing now.
Perhaps as nation, we need to reassess the process by which we choose our leaders with an emphasis a candidate's character and motivation rather than image. Pretty tough to do when we have the press (fifth column) blitzing their agenda into our decision-making process and an education system that generally has been influencing the thinking of American youth with the Left's point of view for the last 40-50 years.
From a practical and spiritual aspect, these are teachable times for our families...as we have seen throughout the long tableau of God's history with Man....God's laws are not mocked and circumstances reveal a man's true characte.
English philosopher Herbert Spencer said: "The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools." As mothers and fathers we must realize that it is our responsibility to raise our children to think and make decisions as godly citizens. This is not something that can be left to the State or the Church. We must urge our representatives and president to do the right thing by writing, calling, and most importantly through prayer. Though we are only pilgrims here for a short time...it is our garden to tend and keep.
"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual -- or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." --Samuel Adams

I have just been shocked this week by Obama's tone. It's like he can't believe everyone doesn't just do what he says. Crazy. Great post.
