Jonny and Maddy

I had so much to say last week I forgot to run this photo of Maddy and Jonny at the Partners Dance at Loudoun Valley High. It's an annual dance for students with special needs and their friends. Several Loudoun high schools participate and it is very popular because of the kids' boundless joie de vivre.
I didn't stay for the dance, but I heard Jonny dominated the dance floor with his incredible repertoire of moves!
Jonny was our 8th child and Maddy was born 54 weeks later, which makes them almost Irish Twins. They are truly both gifts that keep on giving.
[Note - someone has informed me that Irish Twins was originally a derogatory term to refer to large Irish Catholic families and their inability to control their reproduction. Maddy is very proud of being an Irish Twin and - just as we taught our children to be loud and proud about having a brother with Down syndrome - the Curtis family has reclaimed this label and is using it with pride!]

Hey Barbara, my mom has you beat! My brother and sister are 10 months and 1 day apart!!! Granted my sister was 6 weeks premature, but even still if she had come on her due date they would have been 46 weeks apart. She was always proud to call them Irish twins ;)

I have never heard of Irish twins being derogatory and I always use it as a "blessings" of sorts. I love the idea of Irish twins and wish I had them. :) Love your picture of yours.
