    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Loudoun Tree Photo Contest

loudoun tree.jpg
The Loudoun County Arbor Day Committee is sponsoring the 12th Annual "Favorite Loudoun Tree Photo Contest" to draw attention to some of Loudoun County's most precious assets.  This year, Arbor Day will be held at Oatlands on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Oatlands, a National Trust for Historic Preservation, is located 5 miles south of Leesburg along the east side of James Monroe Highway (Route 15).  The photo contest is part of a fun-filled, day-long celebration of trees that includes a parade and many tree- related activities, demonstrations and exhibits that draw attention to the countless benefits and importance of trees.

Entries must be a photo of a single tree in its entirety that is growing in Loudoun County.  The entry must be a photograph taken by the entrant and it must not be enhanced.  It also must be printed on photographic paper, no larger than 8 1/2" x 11", unframed and in black and white or color.  A sheet of paper affixed to the back of the photo should state the name, address and phone number of the photographer, location of the tree, the specific species and its significance if known.  Photos should be submitted to:  Loudoun Soil & Water Conservation District, 30-H Catoctin Circle, S.E., Leesburg, VA 20175 arriving no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009.  Photos will not be returned and they become the property of the Arbor Day Committee.

Winning photos will be displayed at the 21st Annual Loudoun Arbor Day Celebration.  Containerized native deciduous trees, donated by South Riding Nursery, will be presented to photographers of the top 4 photos during the formal ceremony.

For more information, contact Dana Malone, Loudoun County Arborist, 703-771-5991, or Pat McIlvaine, Loudoun County Soil & Water Conservation District, 703-777-2075.
