Abbott and Costello: Who's on first?

Classic comedy!

I believe it is so important for parents to pass on our cultural heritage to our kids. This is part of the package. Parents can take a proactive approach to steering their kids away from the coarse humor in current movies by providing them with classic movies and clips they are sure to love.

My kids went through an Abbott and Costello period last summer and rented all their movies, laughing all the way.

Right now, my four youngest sons are going through a Lone Ranger stage. What looks phony and hokey and outdated to us doesn't look that way at all to young children - who still have vivid imaginations.

I really am going to get around to a movie list soon. Be sure to check your library for old black&white movies

Absolutely check out the old movies pre-1960. My kids got hooked on Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and other assorted stars from that time period. We have a lot of Abbot and Costello, too.

Also check out the early tv shows. As the kids get older they'll enjoy The Wild Wild West, Star Trek, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, etc etc etc.

Even Columbo is really cool here. I've been a big proponent of buying/renting/borrowing dvds of this sort. Our cable is limited to just enough to get reception. (And that's very very few channels). You can buy this stuff on half.com, eBay, Amazon and elsewhere a lot cheaper than the brick and mortar stores. Our children's innocence is worth it.
