Obama on Leno - insults Special Olympics, disabled

President Obama Jokes About Being a Bad Bowler: 'It's Like the Special Olympics'

March 19, 2009 8:56 PM

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Read article here.

Like I said, every morning is full of surprises.

Of course, since it is our Glorious Leader, this will be laughed off by the Elite Media and the ObamaNation. Imagine if Bush had said it. I know the disability community and they would have been calling for Bush's head if he had said this.

And isn't it a sad day when the office of President is demeaned by sitting on Jay Leno's couch to try desperately to score some popularity points. In the midst of all these "crises", seeing his poll numbers falling, he hops his jet (or jets - filled with staff and protection) and hightails it to Hollywood for an ego boost.

Reminds me of Sally Fields in Soapdish. Anyone see that? An aging, narcissistic soap opera queen allays her insecurity by going to a New Jersey shopping mall with a staffer (Whoopi Goldberg) in tow. They separate and then Whoopi comes dashing up to her, yelling "______, aren't you __________? I can't believe it! until she attracts a crowd of adoring fans. Sally goes home a contented woman. But not for long, of course.

What next?

Oh, we already know. Preempting prime time next week in the American Idol time slot - a move undoubtedly calculated to piggyback off Idol's high ratings. You know, people are used to sitting down and watching then, so maybe they'll tune in our Glorious Leader.

What a desperate man who needs this kind of adulation.

I'll bet Obama's teleprompter - which in two days has acculumlated 784 Twitter followers - will have a lot to say about this this morning.

Love,

I have a 38 year old mentally handicapped daughter who has participated in the Special Olympics for approximately 33 years. I take issue with him comparing his inadequacies with the mental and physical challenges of all Special Olympians; my daughter and her friends are so much better than he and take pride in all that they do whether or not they excel. He thought that he was being ‘clever’ and ‘entertaining’ when he made that remark but in my opinion he just proved once again that he is a narcissist; in this instance a Self-Deprecating Narcissist. If anyone else had made that comment or made the comment ‘just like a black’ the MSM would have persecuted them.

Obama is a joke as a President; he could not care less about the American People now that he has the job of President. All he can do is run for elections and re-elections; he cannot govern. With the chaos in Washington and in our Country, making appearances on any comedy show demonstrates poor judgment and a cavalier attitude towards the problems of our Country.

I knew you'd be all over this, Barbara. And rightfully so. What a disappointment the White House is these days. It is one thing after another. You'd think Obama would realize he should just stay in his oval office and DO SOMETHING!

There's a guy who is out of touch. Leading a country. *sigh*

This is so sad and my heart hurts for every Special Olympian that has been belittled by the President. I can only hope he is quickly educated on his ignorance and can sincerely apologize to the people he has offended. It was great to see the next feature about Sarah Palin and her support of the Special Olympics. How timely.

I have already fired off a letter to White House expressing my sentiments about that comment. One of the positive things about the militancy that those who are advocating disability rights, is that comments like this are now considered rude and nasty. That the POTUS should say something like that is even further evidence about how so many still think those jokes and remarks are perfectly acceptable. I hope millions set him straight.

That he made that remark on TV like he did says a lot about his ignorance and sensitivity. Unfortunately, in Congress, in politics, namecalling and such jokes are rampant. Bush and Cheney were not exceptions. They just did not get caught. There are a lot of foulmouthed, nasty ones in DC. Believe me, I have heard them as I sat in on some sessions and meetings. Obama' remark, though still not excusable was mild. This is certainly an occasion to let him know how out of line he is.

About Sarah Palin, with such a personal connection to a disabled child, she surely knows how hurtful such remarks are. However, the Republicans, and Palin herself have not been as generous to many measures and programs that would greatly improve the lives of the handicapped.

Now that is transparency.

He is certainly articulate.

Disgraceful.

He thinks he's funny, but he's not. Remember the comment some time earlier regarding Nancy Reagan? Picking on senior citizens and the disabled is sickening. Both times he has had to offer an apology. He needs to think before he speaks, oh that's right; he can't think or speak without his teleprompter!

Knowing a great many Special Olympics Bowling athletes, I am quite sure that I can categorically say:

Apology NOT accepted! Don't open your mouth without a telepromptor EVER again!

I have a 5 year old special needs daughter as well as a mentally handicapped adult aunt. I am appalled at this and cannot fathom why his staff let him appear on Leno in the first place. Like one of my blog readers said...let him know he already has the job! Amazing - just so very hurtful. Thanks for posting about this. You are right-had Bush made this slip up...heads would have rolled.

Sad to say that I am not surprised. Obama is showing his true colors in all their arrogance.

Shame on him! I would like to see him go down to this awesome special man http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=302053 Go Kolan!

This behavior underscores the point your husband make a while back about fatherless-men and the need for adulation. It seems readily apparent here.

Posted by: Michele | March 20, 2009 3:38 PM

If he's not promoting killing 'them', he's making fun of 'them'. What a jerk.

Posted by: Margaret | March 20, 2009 4:05 PM

Hi Barbara,
I didn't watch Leno. However, when I see this video (I keep replaying it) I absolutely cannot believe the President would say something like this. Do you think he got that little tingly feeling you get when you mess up? I hope he darn near peed his pants!

One more peek into his cold heart. He is so unfit for his job. SO unfit.

Posted by: Kim | March 20, 2009 10:38 PM

Imagine if GW Bush had made not only the same crude joke, but if instead of "Special Olympics," something along the order of "NAACP" or "Women's Lib" or "Code Pink" or "GLADD" or "La Raza" had been substituted. Not only would there have been unleashed fury and outrage in the media for days on end, many liberals would have demanded his resignation or execution. But since it was Obama uttering the slam, and it wasn't directed at any of their pet liberal projects, organizations, or groups, then there is no outrage. Hypocrites.

He has hurt many families in America. He needs to say he is sorry in the public, not to an organization.

In addition, someone who claims to have experienced prejudice and stereotypes throughout life, and has written about them in great detail, should be more sensitive and refined from life's lessons.

Furthermore, Obama claimed he was going to have the world think 'highly' of America again. Will this joke help?

For someone who spoke of equality as a creed. Does this joke match that philosophy?

For someone that said he would stand for all people. Does this stand up for those that participate in the Special Olympics?

The fact is Obama claimed a higher standard. To much is given, much is required.

Obama has just showed us that 'yes we can' destroy what a campaign stands for with a single joke.

During the campaign for the White House in 2008, the media criticized Palin for being ‘common,’ 'not-polished,' 'not-compassionate' and ‘not presidential.’ However, compare Sarah Palins attitude in this video created three weeks ago for the Special Olympics in Boise, Idaho.

You decide the more ‘presidential’ among them. Watch: http://tinyurl.com/ccz6nj

Obama has something seriously wrong with him- what kind of monster mocks the disabled on network television?

I guess we shouldn't be too surprised by this gauche and downright cruel comment re. the Special Olympics- no different than his classless cheap-shot on 90-yr-old Nancy Reagan in his first presser- apparently his preferred targets are old ladies and the handicapped... what a creep.

Narcissists like Obama are often callous- and even ruthless. They tend to lack empathy and/or a conscience. This is evident in his lack of interest in his own half-brother who lives in poverty in Kenya, or his aunt found living in public housing in Boston.

Other indicators include control freakery, grandiose self-importance, feeling "above the law", interpersonally exploitive, inability to handle criticism, lack of empathy, arrogant behavior, surrounds himself with sycophants... sound familiar?

Obama is a mess- and his insecurities, bad childhood, and irresponsible, far-left-wierdo mother are now OUR problem, too- -
