Teach your child to call 911

Great book - proven to be effective - with used copies available at Amazon for as little as 42 cents:

I would add to this that it's very important to teach your children how to use a cell phone. Cell phones are kind of complicated, and each one is different. Teach them to look for that familiar "green phone" symbol that most phones have, and if your phone has an automatic keylock, teach them how to unlock it.

This is very important for those of us who no longer have home phones, but it's also important in case of an emergency away from home. After all, we carry these phones "for safety" -- the kids need to know how to call for help if mom and dad can't.
