Watkins for your home - natural, nontoxic everyday products

140YearsWBanner2.gifFollowing is an introduction to a product line I am going to be linking to from my sidebar. This was not solicited by Watkins, but just something I stumbled upon and really feel is a good match for my family and perhaps some of my readers. After this, it is back to regular programming :) - but you can find the Watkins link in my right sidebar:

With 12 children and a home to run - plus a writing career - my life is pretty full. I wasn't out looking for anything new to add to the mix.

But when I spotted a link for Watkins on a blog, the old-fashioned logo aroused my curiosity. I was immediately drawn to the integrity of the products and the aesthetic appeal of their presentation - so drawn that I decided rather quickly that this was something I would like to be able to pass on to others.

Mind you, I am not a salesperson by nature and have always been very skeptical of MLM marketing. I am a loner and I don't trust organizations.

But somehow Watkins seemed different. It had a 140 year history and a certain integrity. The products were reasonably priced - I was surprised by this price comparison chart! - and of high quality. There were spices and lotions and remedies I would like to use for my family - and I could envision lovely gift baskets filled with the lovely old-timey bottles and jars.

I guess I got a crush on Watkins. I don't know how else to explain how I could overcome my reluctance to associate myself with a product and an organization to jump in with both feet, committing to Watkinize my home with the heavily-discounted assortment.

When the box arrived with an assortment of 60 products, Tripp and I were like little kids at Christmas. A few days later, as I write this, I have tucked away a few items for gift-giving and distributed the rest to my pantry, spice cabinet, linen closet, and medicine cabinet. I've been using them as the need arises - daily vitamins, lemon laundry detergent, lavender lotion, breathe-easy drops for Daniel's stuffy nose, scented spray.

I really, really like these natural, non-toxic products - otherwise I'd never put the Watkins logo on my blog or introduce people to their products. Also, for stay-at-home moms - especially those who blog - Watkins offers a low-key way to earn a little extra income without investing much time. And for those who like to host at-home parties, these are products any mother can put to use - so during these frugal times, you don't have to worry about encouraging others to spend money on things they don't really need.

Even if you don't want to sell, signing up as an associate will allow you to order all Watkins products at 25% discount!

I don't know if my experience is unique or if there are others out there who respond to the aesthetics and integrity of this company and their product line, But if you do, please feel free to email me and I will do my best to help you get started, though I'm just taking baby steps myself.

As I said, we will now return to my normal programming :) I hope you know I would never promote anything I didn't believe in. I get requests every day to plug products that you never see on my blog. In this case, Watkins didn't come looking for me - I was just curious and ended up liking what I found.

Love,

I am a Christian and a fellow blogger (http://Beauty4Moms.blogspot.com). I was hoping that you would write a post about my recent pledge to raise money for Abort73. Abort73 is a great organization that educates people on the truth of abortion. http://apps.facebook.com/causes/fundraising_pledges/57006?m=b4367094

There is the link to help raise money. I'm only short $90. Thank you for your consideration.

I remember that my grandmother always loved Watkins products. She was especially fond of their vanilla. I use them myself when I can find them.

Barbara,

I read this post back when you posted it thinking I would refer back to it when I was really ready to dig in and go "natural" with all my home and beauty products.

For some reason (God?), this idea of using natural products in my home and on my skin and hair, and my families' skin and hair, will not go away. It's everywhere and I'm stumbling onto it completely by accident. About nine months ago, I also took up a part time job at a popular skin product store and cannot shake away how many people (including me) are putting on products every day that could be causing cancer sooner or later in their (and my) life. This site:

http://safecosmetics.org/index.php

provides some excellent resources on understanding what ingredients are being linked to which health issues, including a study that talks about chemicals in makeup being marketed to teenagers that is messing with hormone levels!

Anyway, so tonight, I'm in Target grocery shopping and accidentally come across the natural cleaning products again. So I stop and take a look and after really considering the ingredients, etc., I decided to take a chance on them. I get the products home, do some internet searches for reviews and find positive ones. Then, I remember your post. I come here to find out that the product you reviewed here is none other than the same I bought tonight: Watkins!

I love the packaging (so pretty) and I'm actually excited to clean the house tomorrow! :) I've ordered a catalog from them and I'm looking forward to seeing all the different products they sell!
