On my way home from Mt. Hermon

mthermontrees.jpg I know things have been a little quiet at Mommylife. I've been at the Mount hermon Writers Conference since last Wednesday, where I was fortunate enough to have WiFi access in my room but so busy most of the time that I seldom had time to post.

I taught two workshops and served on the Critique Team - which I always love as it gives me an opportunity to give back what was so graciously given to me when I began coming here in 1994. I met many people who already read my blog and many who I know will be visiting once they get home andt he dust settles. Cliche, but very true. MHWC is crammed with so much information and networking and possibilities that most can go home with a stack of projects to get started on. It can take weeks to go through all the notes and cards and reminders.

I enjoyed seeing Mel and Elizabeth Thompson - in fact Elizabeth is giving me a ride to the airport this morning so we will have even more time to talk. Kathleen Popa, who I vividly remember sitting next to years ago at her first conference lunch, won Writer of the Year. And my great encourager Debbie Jansen, who I also sat at her first conference lunch several years ago was here as well. It is amazing to see how much this conference helps writers find their dream and succeed in realizing it.

I have really missed my family. Ben, Zach and Sophia came home from school to help their dad this weekend - keeping up with laundry and playing with the Downzers. One of those times I wished I could be in two places at once. Tripp took Maddy to the doctor because her allergies were so bad she couldn't sing - turned out she has sinusitis. Thank goodness she's got some antibiotics and getting better as she is cantoring at the Easter Vigil. And all the college kids will be back again for that weekend, so YAY!

I fly out at 12:45 - get home at 9:00 tonight. Have a dentist appointment tomorrow for a cracked tooth which is going to be a big deal and I'm really not looking forward to. Pray for me to be a big girl :)

While I was gone, Tripp began getting dizzy and losing his equilibrium, which can be a side effect of one of the three heavy-duty antibiotics he's on. It can cause eye and kidney damage - this is not your little pink liquid but the last line of defense against MRSA, which I've learned from a couple people here can actually kill you (one woman lost her husband, another her best friend). I am so grateful for your prayers as Tripp has made it so far. he is well on his way to being completely healed, thouth the doctors have warned us that the infection can recur randomly later on.

Anyway, the doctors consulted and took him off one of the drugs Monday - he's actually scheduled to come off all on Thursday if the doctors agree that day. We are hoping so as the drugs have made him so sick. It will be wonderful to have him back to his wonderful self.

Will be back in touch soon. Keep sending me material - I will get to it!

Love,
