Patti Lupone calls Susan Boyle on Early show

susan boyle early show.jpgThe Susan Boyle story continues to unfold.  The Early Show highlighted her life this morning - which included childhood rejection, the confidence in her expressed by friends from the pub where she does karaoke, and her reaction to her sudden fame.

The YouTube video of her Britain's Got Talent audition has now had 11,000,000 views.

I will add the embed code when available, but currently you must go to Surprise for Sudden Star, On Early Show to see it - which you will definitely want to do, despite the patronizing tone of the interviewers - God, love 'em, they were really trying but just didn't seem to know how to act with such a seemingly guileless creature.

Biggest surprise - a phone call from Patti Lupone, the Broadway star who originated the role of Fantine, the character in Les Miserables whose rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" is the one against all others are measured.

Les Miz is our family's favorite show and we have seen it seven or eight times in San Francisco and Washington DC.  We have seen many Fantines.  Plus, my daughters sing "I Dreamed a Dream" all the time.  But I will never forget hearing Susan Boyle's opening bars and running in from the other room to find out who my family was listening to because there was really something special about this new voice.

I loved this interview this morning. She was so down to Earth. I hope she does well.

I have to admit that my first impression was wrong. I think I'm the only one that wasn't bowled over immediately. Not sure why. Her voice is certainly worthy of all the attention she is receiving.
