2009 Spelling Bee - get your kids involved! Say hello to Santos!
We have some dear homeschooling friends - Tony and Liz DeBarros, whose son Santos has made it for the second year into the world-famous National Spelling Bee. We are so excited for them - and hope you and your kids might like someone to root for!
Hi, friends and family,
If you've been within earshot of us in the last few months, you've probably heard us mention that we're off to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., again (along with 292 really bright kids). If you want to follow Santos' adventures, we've set up a blog for the week.
Stay in touch, and love to all,
Tony and Liz and Santos and Nino.

You might want to have your kids read Santos's introduction and drop him a line of encouragement!
This would be a way to personalize the Bee for them and get them interested.
Here are more resources:
2009 National Spelling Bee - check here for coverage times on ESPN and ABC
Spellbound - engaging documentary which takes an in-depth look at the diverse backgrounds of contestants, from Netflix or used for under $3 at Amazon
Akeelah and the Bee (Widescreen Edition) - a fictional treatment, also engaging and also at Netflix or used for under $3 at Amazon.
See where I'm going with this? You never know if your child may have something like this in him or her. Exposing them may waken something special. Maybe they'd like to interview Santos and write a report?
Please do have them drop Santos a line!
