Down syndrome, adoption, China - Reece's Rainbow can help!

sweetbabyjames.jpgRemember Sweet Baby James? The baby boy announced June 24, 2006 at MommyLife in 2007 who would be the first baby with Down syndrome released by China for United States adoption? He was adopted and renamed Simon by his parents Dan and Liz.

Liz has been sending me updates and their family is currently in the process of adopting a sweet little 7-year-old girl with Down syndrome, also from China. After many bumps in the road they have received approval and are awaiting word that they can travel - probably in July and August.

One good thing leads to another. China had offered James/now Simon as a test of sorts and had imposed a deadline. Because the Kulps were prepared with their homestudy and stepped in in time - and because things have gone well - China has made it possible for other unwanted Chinese children with Down syndrome to find a family of their own.

Reece's Rainbow - now marking its 3rd anniversary after rescuing 187 children with Down syndrome from mental institutions - is where to go to find more information. You never know when God will call you to something bigger than you ever thought you were capable of! There are currently 10 children listed there from China, and more from other countries.

You can also donate to make adoption possible for those whose hearts are big but resources small.

"Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act" Proverbs 24:12

Thank you for highlighting Reece's Rainbow again. I found my youngest daughter from Colombia in the earliest days of RR 3 years ago. I've never left! Now I am thrilled to serve alongside Andrea Roberts and several other wonderful women as we continue to spread the word about 'our' children around the world.

I would also like to put in a plug for adoptions from China. Having adopted twice from China I can certainly say that they have a wonderfully streamlined and surprisingly predictable process, a rarity in the international adoption world. I have enjoyed my trips to China immensely. The ancient cultural sites are breathtaking.

Most exciting, though, is bringing home a child to a forever family, whether that child is Russian, Ethiopian, or American. Thank you, Barbara, for continuing to showcase adoption options!
