Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom - 5/6 ENCORE - ticket giveaway

drlaura.jpg Still sick - couldn't go to the Dr. Laura event last night, but Nelda went and reports:

Hi Barbara, hope you're feeling better. Just wanted to thank you again for gifting me with the Dr. Laura event pass. Although I unfortunately was unable to find any available moms to come with me, I went by myself and thoroughly enjoyed it.

What I personally liked best was that Dr. Laura's life, in many respects, mirrored my life's experiences: she spoke about how she spent years buying into the lies of the "feministas," and how, at age 35, she broke down crying when she confessed to herself that she wanted to be a "mommy," and then how, when she finally had a baby, she joined the ranks of the "other sisterhood!" For me, it was validating to hear her speak about how being a mother fulfills us as women in a way that career climbing does not. And it was a breath of fresh air to hear that despite the politically-correct climate we live in today. In fact, while at tonight's event, I met another stay-at-home mother and together we lamented the fact that we feel like a dying breed!

Dr. Laura answered audience questions and also gave a 5-point presentation for both women and men to remember:
Women -
1. Remember to have a team spirit attitude with your husband,
2. Spend time with women who share the same values,
3. Don't get into a perfection rut (instead live in the present moment),
4. At the end of the day, reflect on the joys and pleasures, finding at least two good things that happened,
5. Everyday find a reason to tell your husband he's a hero.
Men -
1. Be a provider w/out complaining or bragging,
2. Compliment your wife every day,
3. Talk to your wife like she's your girlfriend,
4. Talk about your wife and children lovingly in public,
5. Give your wife time to go out.

Thanks again Barbara, wish you were there! --Nelda

Hi Barbara, I forgot to mention that Dr. Laura was very funny! Who knew? She reminded me a little of Carol Burnett! --Nelda

If anyone would like to see the ECNCORE tonight at the Regal in Fairfax, email me - I can get five tickets.

Love,
