This is another liberal/fascist issue which the Obama Regime is sure to move on under Eric Holder.  Which is why gun and ammunition sales are up.

I have shared the story of how during the Clinton years Tripp and I changed our tune on gun ownership.  I can't tell you how much safer it is to live in a home where you know you can protect and defend those you love.

See How One Woman Got Her Gun.  Is it time for you to think outside the box you were raised in on this issue too?

Love,

I've had friends that demand I "hide" them from their children (my guns are NOT out in the open, nor are they accessible to children) and I told her that she's just not welcome in my home if she doesn't think she can trust me to protect all children in my home, however with that attitude, I didn't trust her children to obey my rule of "If the door is shut, it stays shut."

I'm a firm believer in my 2nd Amendment rights. I love telling liberals that my 2nd Amendment right protects their 1st Amendment. If someone doesn't want a gun, fine... don't have one. But don't revoke MY right to have one. When Obama turns this nation into a Socialist nation, believe me, my gun will be putting meat on the table because my neighbors won't be able to afford it.

[Note from Barbara - another phony email address person courageously speaks up - as though we are supposed to be impressed by a "FormerMedStudent."

Here are a few links to begin exploring the actual research which debunks the myths/lies parroted in the following comment:

Armed Resistance to Crime http://www.guncite.com/gcdgklec.html
Nine Myths of Gun Control http://www.2asisters.org/education/ninemyths.htm

One obvious problem is that we do not have a system for keeping track of foiled crimes, nor is there any way to tell how much safer a family is when it is known that they are armed. It seems rather obvious that criminals choose vulnerable victims.

And, btw, FormerMedStudent - I think all of us who agree on gun ownership agree on being well trained.]

Sorry to break it to you but unless you are very well trained, like say the way cops and soldiers are trained, having a gun in the house does not make you safer.[Love this - opinion, no stats or research]

You are much more likely to be a suicide or accident victim involving your gun than you are to successfully defend your home or yourself with your gun. [ditto]

You say your guns are inaccessible to your kids. Great, but you seem awfully sure that they always will be so. What if there's an earthquake, as my grampa used to say? [weak. I don't linve in eartchquake country anymore.]

If you confront a bad guy you are at least as likely to get your gun taken from you as to successfully defend your home with it unless you are trained not just to shoot but to kill. To kill PEOPLE. Unless you are a psycho or specifically trained you will find it very much more difficult to shoot a person than you think. Even if he's coming at you in your home. All of a sudden you won't be holding your gun anymore and you won't be clear on how it happened.

To the commenter, you say your Second Amendment rights protect our First Amendment rights? So when the Feds come in their jackboots to take away my computer you're gonna shoot them for me? Thanks awwwwwfully. As I recall the child-molester cultist David Koresh tried something like that and it ended rather messily.[You'd better check your history. Koresh was no hero, but our liberal/fascist government under Clinton was the aggressor - under a Republican administration, heads would have rolled and the attorney general still be in jail]

To respond kindly to FormerMedStudent,

I didn't used to own a gun, I was actually raised to be a bit afraid of them. So, when my husband (then boyfriend, we were considering marriage at that point) invited me to target shoot his handguns with him, I thought, well, if they're going to be in my house, I'd better learn how they work. After several training sessions from him, an uncle and several ex-Westland policemen (retired and running the range where their co-workers train and practice), I have become comfortable enough to operate a handgun in defense of my home. (Really, with my small hands, I prefer a 12-gauge shot gun loaded with buckshot, but a 45 with subsonic ammo works nicely...)

The key to safe gun ownership and operation is knowing how your gun works, keeping gun and ammo separate and locked when not in use, teaching little ones the danger of guns- their proper use and demystifying the "lone ranger" mystique (which may when mature enough, include training in their proper use). All of the above will be enough to ensure that most trajic accidents do not occur.

As for being capable of using a gun in self defense, as several retired police men once told me, "If you draw it, you'd better well be prepared to use it!" So, if you're not sure you can shoot someone/something (bears and other animals for our up North friends), what are you doing with a gun anyways?

Also, as a side note: most states legally allow you to fire on intruders in your home. In Michigan this means that if you've called 911 and you've alerted the intruder to your gun and intent to use it, you can legally do so if the intruder does not desist. Does this mean you fire on everyone that enters your home? Probably not, the same good policemen told me most home invaders are after your stuff, not you, and will exit upon such a warning. They also advised that using a gun to protect your stuff when there's no personal danger to you is not the best idea. However, they pointed out to me that when the cops do arrive, if you're the only one standing, you're the only one who knows what really happened...

I'm not a paranoid person, or one who relishes the though of killing in self defense, but it does help to note that even in a quiet suburban neighborhood out side of Detroit that it takes over 10 minutes for the police to show up at your house. Who knows what some crazy people are capable of in that time.

Just some thoughts from your typical upper middle class, college educated (engineer by trade) suburban white female...

Barbara,

If you haven't seen this, you will love it. It's a cartoon/poster on Obama and gun control.
