I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

This was the solo at Ben and Anna's wedding - sung by a friend of Ben's in a deep bass voice:

Obviously, Anthony Way is not the one with the "deep bass voice"! :-) But it is a beautiful hymn, no matter. There are a number of tunes frequently used with it. Vox Dilecti is interesting because of its switch from a minor to a major key. When I've used the number as a solo, I often sing it to the tune for the old ballad, "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes."

In any event, this invitation of the Lord Jesus (in Matt. 11:28) is one each person needs to respond to. Our soul's deepest needs are met in Him.

A couple of points of interest: Today is the 120th anniversary of the death of Horatius Bonar, the author of the hymn. And though he wrote about 600 hymns, there's a sad peculiarity about them all. To find out what it is, check my blog for today.

God bless.
