Musical Goldie-Oldies from Momma C
A little lazy rainy Sunday music history lesson - and don't ask me how I got here.
Oh, did someone ask? Well, in that case. . . .
I was showing Maddy a YouTube of Brenda Lee, the child prodigy singer whose greatest hits a few years later would include "I'm Sorry" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." Here she is at 12:
Somehow I started wandering (I love YouTube but don't have time to do this very often) and put together this pair of Then-and-Nows:
Did I say how much I like YouTube? This is part of our cultural history - and I'd really like to see it passed on. When I showed Maddy the first Fleetwoods clip, I said this was on American Bandstand and she said, "What's American Bandstand?
"It was a show on TV every day after school. The host was Dick Clark. It was in Philadelphia and kids would dance and they would have guest singers."
"Oh, like in Hairspray?"
"Yeah. Hairspray was a takeoff on American Bandstand."
We saw Hairspray together and I didn't even realize I needed to put it in context for her. How much we take for granted with our kids. Be sure to pass on everything you can!
